    Default Washington Redskins a Racist?

As a Native American, I am deeply offended by the name Washington "Redskins". This is a derogatory term to stereotype an entire North American Peoples. I am more then sure, that if Washington changed there name to the "Yellowskins" and everybody painted there faces Yellow to symbolize Asian peolpe and had Ninja's as there mascot, that the asian community would be deeply offended. Even the term, Washington "Blackskins" could be used, and the team like they do now, have to hire a bunch of "Whiteskins" to paint there faces black, to symbolize the team, and mascots which might be a ZULU warrior or a Blood or a Crypt.

The National Football League, and human rights commissions need to come together and discuss the derogatory, and racist sports names they need to get rid of such as the Washington Redskins. Even in MLB, the term Indian is incorrect, as it was a word used by the European Immigrants to take away from there nationhoods.

Either way, this needs to be changed, solved, resolved, dissolved, and relieved. Im will never support racism, and neither should anybody around the world. Racism is a tough thing, if you are on the wrong side of it.

An honest question. Why is it racist and not a tribute.
Now I don't know the history of the naming of the Redskin, Blackhawks, Braves or Cleveland Indians, but I would assume when the names were selected they were done so to tribute the Native Americans. Why would you name your cities sports team in a mocking or racist fashion. It makes no sense to consider those names racist, they are a tribute and it should be an honour IMO.

    Thanks MasterShake!!!

I can't believe there is still a team named the Redskins in 2011. It's sort of mind boggling when you actually think about it.

I think horses should be offended by Broncos. Who's looking out for their rights?

that's a little different North. Broncos is not really a derogatory term. Now if it was the Washington Indians, that would probably be O.K.

I can agree with the mascot, but the marketing department for the team is accountable for that. I still doubt the name was selected to be offensive back in the day.
Native Americans are celebrated in all leagues of professional sport unlike any other race on the planet.

I think the name should be changed to Americans. Ok, maybe not... I'd hate to be the team who had to admit to hating the Americans.

As said, it was never meant to be anything other than a celebration...

We don't name our team the Broncos because we hate horses... we do it because we like horses.

The name 'Redskins' is horribly outdated though.
To all the armed forces... present, past, and future.

To be honest, i think Indians have bigger issues than the name of a football team. How exactly has this name hurt the indians? Can you point me to some examples of indians being attacked at games or some other issue where its directly affected them?
