I just turned on my laptop and it said that the battery in my laptop is running out of it's lifespan.
I know this happens eventually, but I've only had my laptop since February this year.
Is that normal? It seems to have died pretty quickly.

Seems like a short life-span to me. I'd call Dell and see if there is some kind of warranty or problem they're addressing. I know in the past they've had battery problems and have offered free replacements.
That's the same laptop I have. I've had it just a few months less than you... and I haven't had a battery issue... but I'm almost always plugged in.
Have you ever had a hard time with the computer not recognizing the AC adapter as a correct power source when in hibernate or starting up? Mine has overheated a bit and given me an error on startup. Been meaning to write them.
Anyway... the XPS series comes with not just great warranties... but with in home service. Not sure if it would be different across the pond... but I'm sure at the least you could get a replacement battery... they're making great breakthroughs in laptop batteries now too.... you may come out well on top in the deal.
Found this online:
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell...sageID=2557130Two months into its life, almost to the day, the battery had an error - system tray says 0%, not charging. Dell sent me a replacement power pack in two days, but it didn't fix the problem. Second try diagnosed a bad motherboard, cause unknown. Dell sent the parts to a tech in 48hrs, who came to my house to replace it, took apart the machine and reassembled it with new parts, but now it won't even turn back on. Apparently, the hardware warranty doesn't cover a situation when the tech can't fix it, so they had to 'make an exception' to send it back to the depot for repair, and say it'll be another 5-10 days until I get my $4,000 machine back.
Dell are sending a new one.
Quick question, the power adapter I'm using is actually from an Insipron, it fits perfectly but could this be the cause of the problem?
Hey, if you had to call them you wouldn't get an American person either.
And lord knows when I used to deal with US customers for online Poker, that the majority of them couldn't understand the English help staff.
See below for an actual transcript from my friends call:
"Can I have someone who speaks English?"
"Uh, I'm FROM England, that's all I speak."
"Oh, okay, well can I have someone who speaks American?"
