Some believe John Mackey is the G.O.A.T. of TEs, and, after having seen him
and the others since him play, I have little argument to that (although Kellen
    Winslow might have one).

Mackey was the prototypical TE who could catch all the passes, yet knock
anyone else on his butt as a blocker. In fact, he had a big hand in
revolutionizing the position from almost strictly a blocker to a receiver.

Yes, RIP, John. You bring back some "not-so-fond" memories (because I
was a Packers fan, and still am, second to the Broncos, of course).

Sorry, but the Pack was my boyhood team, long before there ever was a
Denver Broncos. I was a true fan, just as I am with the Broncos. The Broncos
took their place as #1 (by far), but one doesn't just banish a former love
    entirely from one's heart . . .

Sorry you apparently think less of me for this. Perhaps I should be placed in
the same category as a woman beater?

Nonetheless, you might show that you have been a fan of the Denver
Broncos half as long as I have before you have something to say about
whether I am a fan. I'm not sure your daddy wasn't much more than a
gleam in his daddy's eye when I saw the first game the Broncos ever
    played.

You have your own values. That's good. Just don't ask me to live by them.

Now, let us not tarnish this thread any further, that is supposed to be
    dedicated to a true legend . . .

I'll bet that everyone one on here roots for another team besides the Bronocs at one time or another or has in the past.

Like Top I have always had a fond spot for the Pack, Bears and the browns. Mostly because they represent the old school of the NFL. Plus I really liked Lombardi.

I honestly don't think I have. I've considered becoming a fan of other teams though.

Again, if you judge me as self righteous, then you are doing it according to your
own values. I did not try to foist my own values onto you, as you did me. I just
told it like it is, as I personally see it. So, unless you wrote that to yourself, you
    are way off base . . .

Now, do we really have to trash this thread with this crap?

Wow . . . I can't believe people are actually saluting you here.

To the main point, I'd agree Mackey was GOAT, as he was as good a receiver as Winslow or Sharpe, and a better blocker. he was the prototype.

John Mackey was the best tight end ever at one time. He still might be. I think he had something to do with that tipped ball in the Super Bowl against dallas when Jim Obrien kicked the winning field goal. I think it was on a John Facenda film. Man, those were rough days to be a fan, when information about your team was almost non existent except for the fall. The football magazines came out in the summer and that was the sole source of football information. Now we have 24 hours a day of football football and football...its total saturation and theres not enough time in the day to keep up with it all.
As far as liking other teams, hell yes, who cant love the Lombardi Packers of the sixties? Such simpler times. Thats real nostalgia.

Me, thats who - my Mom was a huge Johnny Unitas/Colts fan, and my Dad was then and remains a Browns fan. The Packers were the archenemy in our house, replacing the equally hated Giants in my Dad's eyes when Harland Svare ruined that franchise. I'm just young enough not to remember when the Giants were still a powerhouse with Tittle, Gifford, Sam Huff and all
