Default Rest in Peace, Michael Chrichton

I just got news from my father that one of my all time favorite authors has passed on.

He heard it on the radio... so I did a quick search and found no breaking news on it, then I went to his wikipedia page... which listed his death as yesterday, 11/4/08.

The bottom of his biography states that he lost a private battle with Cancer.

Chrichton was one of my favorite authors, and if I were to aspire to write he would likely be my hero. I liked 'Jurassic Park' and 'Lost World' when I was younger, but I recently rediscovered him through two of my now alltime favorite novels 'Prey' and 'State of Fear'.

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Chrichton.

    Thanks, Reid!

Oh man! Sphere was a great book, so was The Andromeda Strain. This is like when we lost Frank Herbert and Tolkien.

He was tall. And wrote a book that is one of my all time favourites. Airframe. Kind of about the DC-10/L-1011 battle.

Apaops, I am sure you read it between unloading the shit can's on G-V's.

    Damn. I enjoyed his books.

I personally thought Congo was his most entertaining work.

Congo was a great book. So was Jurrasic Park, the Lost World, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, and Airframe. DC10/MD11>L1011

    L1011 was a beautiful plane.

They're garbage. I flew on one from here to Kuwait in 2006. Trash. The MD11 is a far, far superior airframe. But this is about the author, not the plane.

Don't judge a plane by its passenger cabin.

The Tristar was revolutionary. Lockheed just sucked.

The design is nice, and it's efficient, but not maintenance friendly at all. Could you imagine changing a throttle cable clear the hell up there? Or doing any kind of engine maintenance on an engine that is INSIDE the tail of the plane? THAT is why I don't like the L1011. The DC10/MD11 took that engine out of the tail and mounted it on the vertical stab. MUCH better design. MUCH more maintenance friendly. MUCH more efficient. Less air travel = less air turbulance = cooler air in to the compressor = better burn.

Agreed. From my research Lockheed excelled in building wings. They were the aero kings.

Andromeda Strain is underrated. Sphere was bad ass.
