I finished Waco in one sitting. Six one-hour episodes. Easy 10/10.

    What I liked about it:

It taught me about an important event in US history that I've never explored. It happened when I was in high school, and what I heard was from the local newspaper. I definitely had the impression that it was a radical, militant cult. My reaction was along the lines of 'they had it coming, but the ATF and FBI look like a clown act.' So it expanded my horizons to see another perspective. It felt more sympathetic to the Branch Davidians than might be objectively appropriate, but I'm ok with that kind of bias when no one is telling one side of the story.

Waco raises a lot of questions. Questions about religion, the meaning of God, civil order and disobedience, federal vs. state police power, state censorship and propaganda, morality of bigamy, the role of belief, family, charismatic leaders, 'underage' sex, mental health, and the power of words. Why are some laws enforced, and others ignored? I like it when a show is both a compelling drama and makes you think about stuff.

    No fluff...it moved along nicely.

    What I didn't like:

Whenever you serialize reality, there are bound to be artistic liberties and license taken. A good showman knows when to sacrifice objective truth for making a better story. Frankly, I want the good story. But there is always the risk of telling false narratives, and that is my fear with a show like Waco. I guess I could dig deeper if I was inclined, but the truth is I probably won't. I'll just choose to not believe the story as the gospel of Waco, but one perspective on events.

    Overall:

Tight, possibly over-dramaticized, but compelling series about the dynamics of a religious cu___. . . about an 'emergent religion' (lol) and the consequence of militaristic federal police power applied to a charismatic believer and his many children.

    Frankenstein Chronicles.

I have no idea if this show is the master of the slow burn, or ran out of episodes and had to go ham at the end of season one.

I don't regret watching the first season. It's a show with pretty cliched narrative advancements and backstory development. And there's one moment that has to happen for the plot to advance that is just so outwardly stupid in a show that is structured and presented in the way that it is. It's a B- show with a few A+ moments and some dialogue that's usually solid, never great, and occasionally dumpster water bad.

    Everything sucks - Netflix.

Solid show about high schoolers in 1996. Good soundtrack.

Really good show. Lots of good actors were in that over the years.

Death Note, the Japanese anime...animated...show. Not that I'm proud of it, but it's a fun watch.

It's a 4 part series chronicling the careers of Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine and artist/producer Dr. Dre.

    It's pretty good.

Weird that it's already time for 90s nostalgia.

I usually don't like standup but I put on the latest Chris Rock standup as background noise and it's pretty funny.

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

True. For the most part. But that does not mean the content wanty funny.

I very much make a distinction better what comedians say, what they believe and also agree with gervais that any subject can be funny if the context is right. For example I am a huge supporter of the trans movement, but thought the Jenner stuff was funny.

That review is basically a spoiler of the whole show, people should read it after they watch it lol

Season three of love on Netflix

I love this show. It's just a nice easy going mildly funny little show with strangely endearing characters.
