A better way is "i never fancied them to win, until I saw those long balls"

Fancied carries connotations of sexual desire (usually) but in this context it just means thought or believed or expected

The way I used it suggested that I never believed I would enjoy it

Then I succeeded. Although I wasn't masturbating to Xhaka's passing but it did give me a semi. He looked like effing Xabi Alonso in the first half.
