She seems like a nice lady. We've been learning about Europe in class and the kids are still baffled that the UK has a monarch that doesn't have any real power. They ask "what's the point" to which I say in my mind "just to piss of Dave."

I am sure she is a lovely lady - but her position is a joke and should be abolished

I've heard the argument for them in 2018 on out is that they bring in a lot of money for the country.

I hav eno idea as to if that is try or not. My old teacher at undergrad, an Oxford educated man, referred to the crown as a perpetual embarrassment.

surprising that an establishment man from Oxford would take that point of view - but i agree with him.

Oh - he's not an establishment man. He went to Oxford because it's the best school available. He then left despite being a talented academic because, in his words "Oxford is not the real world," and lamented people who would latch onto small positions at Oxford when they could be greater, albeit at schools with less elite pedigree.

I think you would absolutely hate him, tbh.

Watching 'The Crown'.....I thought perhaps Prince Philips was having a gay relationship with his pal, but they were just good buddies drinking and partying. The Australia trip was kinda weird.
