    Default Migraines

Anyone know a lot about migraines? Within the last two months, my migraines have increased in frequency from approximately once every month to between 2 and 4 days a week. They also have been accompanied by varying levels of nausea when they never had before. Of course, everything I've read online has said to make an appointment with my doctor immediately, but doesn't give a single reason why other than to get medication. I HATE going to the doctor, especially for something annoying and hard to quantify as headaches and I won't take meds unless I'm dying. Do you think it's really necessary to schedule a doctor appointment?

So I can not offer up any advice or anything like that. I can however give you a fish.

It is crazy not to go to the doctor.

It may not just be a headache.

If it is indeed migranes then you choose on Meds or no Meds.

But if it not just a headache then it behooves you to know for sure.

The difficulty with migraines is finding the cause. You can always take drugs which mask the pain but dont address the cause. You are wise to try to avoid that route.
First off, I would make sure you are getting adequate Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. The most abundant fatty acid in the brain is an Omega 3 called DHA. Omega 3s are powerfully anti inflammatory. Unfortunately the American diet is lacking in Omega 3...Make sure you are getting at least 3,000 mg of DHA/EPA a day from Fish Oil. Ive seen migraines eradicated by simply providing the body with Essential fatty acids(EFAs) in the form of Fish oil.
Second, make sure you are getting adequate Vitamin D3. 5,000 IU per day.
Next is a supplement called N-Acetyl-Cysteine, also known as NAC. NAC is a precursor to glutathione, or bodies most powerful antioxidant. .
You also should consume 8 oz per day of 100% pomegranate juice, which is another very potent antiinflammatory agent.

There are so many factors that could contribute to migraines. Some have attained relief by going to a gluten free and sugar free diet. The high meat American diet is very high in something called Arachadonic acid, which causes inflammation in the body. So limiting your intake of red meat may also help.

Hope this helps. If the pain persists or gets worse, then you need to get a brain scan. Good luck.

    Acupuncture is awesome for migraines.

When I was having almost one a week in spain, the acupuncturist really helped.

I would go to the doctor if I were you...I haven't had a migraine or a real bad headache since I started taking blood pressure medicine...I had high blood pressure and I believe that was the cause of mine.

Migraines suck ..I haven't had one for about 3 years. The last one I had about killed me.It was probably the worse one I ever had.

My wife used to get migraines all the time (about 10 years ago). She went in to get tested for food allergies and found out that she was allergic to milk and molds (which is in too many things to mention). She changed her diet and stayed away from the allergens as much as possible and her migraines pretty much went away. They can do a blood test for allergies, but it is expensive.

I don't think the medical world has a really good idea on what is the background trigger for migraines, so they stick to trying to cure the symptoms.

This is very good advice. There are migraines that are simply migraines, and
then there are migraines that have underlying causes. In the latter case, you
    definitely want to find out.

Good advice from both. My daughter suffers from migraines, and she has
developed a meditative/breathing treatment that helps to assuage her pain.
In fact, she teaches it to her clients.

But it really stinks that you have to go through that, Frau. I wouldn't wish
    that on anybody.

Runs in my family. I found having my bite adjusted and wearing a mouth appliance has helped(grinding).
My mother is allergic to al kinds of foods/ingredients.

    Changing her diet has helped.

They suck, so good luck, Frau.

When I get a migraine (once a month or so), I usually treat it with 6-8 ice cold beers.

    Hope this helps.

Let us know what the problem was if they figure it out.

But then it just maybe all in your head.

    Best advice...doctor.
MS folks have a greater prevalence of migraines, so I can speak with much experience.
You must not only treat your symptoms, but document your triggers. It is wise to keep a headache diary and include the following: time of day, where is the pain located, aura/no aura, sound or light sensitive, nausea/vomitting, dizzy, fever, what were you doing prior to onset, were you hot or cold? What were you eating or drinking? Stress? This will be important in your overall treatment of the migraines.
    *Try drinking a pepsi/coke-12oz.
*Or eat a chocolate candy bar.
*Cold compress across the eyes/dark room/warm blankets.
*If they give you meds to treat migraine immediately--do NOT drive or operate any machinery until you know how it will affect you.
    *Rest, rest, rest!
*Preventive migraine treatment is a crap shoot and I've not found it to be very successful, they usually use something like nadolol (high blood pressure)works as a vasodilater...or something like that.
Good luck Cheese and hope you are feeling better.
