Default Cable out as Raiders coach

Moments after going on Sirius radio and reiterating his belief in the future of the Raiders and expressing his hope that he would remain on the job, the Raiders announced Tom Cable would not return as head coach.

“It’s out of my hands,” Cable told hosts Brian McGovern and Marty Schottenheimer during a regularly-scheduled spot. “Make no mistake about it, I want to be head coach of the Oakland Raiders. If that’s not to be, by someone else’s decision, then I’ll be a head coach somewhere else. If not, I’ll coach the (offensive) line for somebody, and I can do that pretty darn good. But I want to be the head coach here.

Cable apparently didn’t realize that at the very moment he was giving the interview, the Raiders were preparing a release that said “Cable’s contract not extended” and putting on their Web site.

As much of a Broncos fan I am, I feel bad for the Raiders.

They had something good going for them and that dumb moron Al Davis just screwed it up. This makes me angry.

Thanks AGAIN, Mr. Davis! I would be freaking pissed if I was a Raiders fan. The first guy to show some positive things in that organization in the last 8 years, and poof, he's gone. As a Broncos fan, all I can say is thanks. As a football fan, all I can say is...what a freaking idiot.

Cable finally made them dangerous and competitive, so, whats a dessicated old zombie like Davis to do? Fire him, thats what! And without a shred of decency or professionalism, either.

Now, even more, I'll be pulling for his successor to posy a 3-13 record or worse, just out of spite

For the sake of Al Davis, I hope they go 3-13 until he finally fills his final depend. I hope for the sake of our Raiders fans here that they don't do that, but it would be justly deserved by the Crypt Keeper.

Wow... I don't understand why they wouldn't bring Cable back. I didn't expect much when they made him the HC, but he surprised and made their team quite a bit better. How do you sweep your division and not get your contract extended even one year?

Ok, they missed the playoffs, but still. Thanks Al!

I say Cable can come coach our O line, maybe even be our OC. I'd be ok with that, then he can stick it to Al all he wants!

I love this comment by a raider fan

As soon as the Raiders get out of the losing column, Loony Bin decides its time for a switch. Sure all the players are pissed.

    What a joke.

Cable is actually an excellent O-line coach. Could you imagine Gruden coming in as HC and Cable as the new O-line coach? Then the Niners actually hire Hue Jackson, who was given permission to interview yesterday. They would have no choice but to hire Josh McDaniels as their OC or HC.

Talk about bad blood and bad intentions. Could be a rival once more.

Why would you feel sorry for such a pathetic fanbase with a pathetic team that has pathetic fans?

I love watching Raider fans suffer. Cable isn't that good of a HC anyways, so it doesn't matter. Raiders will go back to thier 5-11 ways soon anyways. Thier a joke. Always have been, always will be.

Why? You'd never catch them feeling sorry for us. Were I a Raiders fan, I'd
be pissed. But I'm a Broncos fan. So,

I agree about this being a dumb move for rah rah sake, but you guys are looking at the division's internal beatings and not the overall picture, which was the playoffs. That was the goal to retain the option.

Did he get rid of a playoff caliber coach? Probably not, as much as it pains me to say it as a HUGE Cable fan.

Our defensive line and run game are still lethal, which we won't lose with Cable gone. Now it's time to see if (Hue Jackson) is a better coach that OC. I can't even guess at this point.

Davis doesn't surprise me. I'm just glad he did it asap. Can't wait for the press conference.

If you look around, you guys are still worse off, so I wouldn't circle jerk so hard.
