Default Chiefs' Jamaal Charles comes within .02 yards of setting NFL record

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shu...urn=nfl-302853

The distance is only 0.72 inches. If Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs had gained that much more per carry this season, he'd have unseated an NFL legend in the record books.

The explosive Chiefs running back finished with 6.38 yards per rush this season, an average which left him narrowly behind Jim Brown's record of 6.4 yards per carry, set in 1963. (Other ball carriers have finished with higher averages -- Michael Vick ran for 8.4 yards per attempt in 2006 and 6.8 this season -- but not as running backs.)

That's a difference of .02 yards, .06 feet, 0.72 inches, 1.88 centimeters or 18 millimeters. It's less than the length of the "return" key on your keyboard.

I wonder if anyone on KC knew what lurked and thus would've given him another carry. Either way, congrats to him in a great season.

I heard on the radio here the KC radio guy named Babb??? (IIRC).. and he was talking that Haley DIDNT want to use him ( Charles) as much as Weis did this year.....
    I was like...WTF??? really?

I dont know if that is true or what.. but man.. I'd give him the rock as much as he wants...

if i remember correctly, with 6 or 7 minutes to go Charles didn't get another handoff. Obvious playoff implications in mind but still.......

I'm sure had they known they would've tried to break that simply amazing stat. Still impressive accomplishment in itself

The article is pretty deceptive the way it comes across, almost as if Charles only needed .72 inches to break the record. This is a per carry stat they are talking about, Jamal had 230 carries this year, 36 inches per yard. 230/.72=319 inches. 319/36 (inches per yard)=8.86. So he only needed just over 8.86 yards over the course of the season. Dang.

(I hope my math is right)

This is like when Mr.B got 5 out of 6 numbers in the lotto, and the last number on our ticket was 41 while the winning number was 14. Instead of rejoicing that we won $500, I smacked him and said why didn't you get that last number right???
