Whether active or reserve Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, I want to give a shout out to all the men and women who volunteer and put on the uniform to serve our nation as well as the ones who served before them and paved the way!! You can't put a price on the sacrifice you all make!

As each year passes, take the time to visit a WWII/Korean War Vet because within 10 years they'll be a rarity!! Many have passed on already!!

My Grandad made it all the way through the first world war and fought all over the world.
We know very little about his experiences apart from that, as he hardly ever talked about it to his wife and twelve children.
Just looking at the memorial outside our Chapel in a village of just 200 population which has dozens of young men listed on it explains why. He must have seen some terrible things and no family went untouched by that war.

Sadly, despite the suffering during those horrible two world wars, many still continue to lose their lives. My thoughts are with families who have lost loved ones in recent conflicts and also with all those who have returned from conflicts and do not get the support and help they need.

As everyone who has posted here said..Happy Veterans Day to all the ones who served and are serving now.

And never forget the ones who gave their lives!!!

I told my husband Happy Veterans Day this morning!!!

Thinking about my dad who served on Iwo Jima and who is no longer here!!!

As the Holidays approach it's important to remember the ones who won't be
able to spend time with their loved ones!!!

Default I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag

Hung out with some veterans this morning at Mitchell Elementary in Golden. Met Col. Kenneth Greenwall, who was involved in the Tet Offensive, which started in the early morning hours of Jan. 31, 1968 and was probably the most famous battle in the Vietnam War.

Met a World War II veteran who earned a purple heart.

Veteran’s Day was initially “Armistice Day” to honor veterans of World War I. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a war hero himself, agreed that veterans who served in all wars should be honored so the holiday was renamed Veteran’s Day.

I got a little choked up when Principal Ryan West led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance. If you do nothing else on this Veteran’s Day, say our country’s oath. Here it is:

“”I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America
and to the republic, for which it stands
    one nation, under God, indivisible
With Liberty and Justice for all.”

I hope everyone is having a good Veterans Day.

Thank you to all who served, and all who serve today. Unfortunately freedom must be defended, i'm glad we have had the young men and women throughout our history that were willing to do just that.
