I have no idea why, but I am insanely obsessed with this song today. I haven't been this musically blown away in a minute. I was super into this song randomly back circa 88 or 89 because I happened to find it as a track on my parent's albums that I explored when they were out of the house. It was catchy then. But now...there is SO much going on here that is unreal. The harmonies. The weird structure. The low and high. The multiple singers. The lack of any percussion until about 2:50 when the first snare hits.
This song is a ******* masterpiece. Absolute perfection.

When Train first came out, I listened to their first album non-stop. Still do on occasion. But after their first, I lost interest. The first one was just fun to listen to, and different than everything else at the time. So, their first album is one of my all-time favorites, without Train itself being one of my all-time favorite bands. Weird how different stuff at a specific time and place can make such an impact.

I would not have become so taken by it had I not been singing a lot of harmony with band mates.
Me and the other singer guy in our band practice a lot of harmony to spice up our songs and give them punch. We are no Simon & Garfunkel...but...
That's actually the song we have been practicing the most, off-line from band practice. Sort of a side-bar. Sound of Silence.
And the last few times we have busted it out, we've gotten a lil' bit of that reaction you hope for, that 'dayum!' kind of thing.
It's taken a fvckton of work and disappointment and suck and persistence to even be slightly worth human attention.
Especially in this particular age when autotune and perfection are the expectation. (garbage, imo)

Dude. Autotune is shit, and I listen to a lot of electronic music. I'm playing some progressive/tech house mixes right now.
I've always loved harmonies. That shit just sounds dope-- I'm not technical enough to know what's so pleasing to the ear about them, but there it is. You guys don't exactly need to be John and Paul to sound good.
