What would music be if not for nerds?

I would make the argument that most professionals musicians, all the way from the music teacher to the orchestral professional to most rock stars are nerds. It takes a nerd to really be a musical theory genius, which most professional musicians are.

    Obviously, there are exceptions.

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

    Powell's HTTYD soundtracks.

    Ok, so storytime. Meh-calibre story.

I'm trying to get my son to give a rat's ass about grades. He just finished 6th grade. He doesn't care about grades, barely cares about parental pride. It's both frustrating and satisfying. So I asked him, 'what would be worth getting straight A's?' His answer was HTTYD soundtracks on vinyl. They are apparently rare, and he was into my little vinyl thing.

Long story long, he got straight A's. And yesterday we had a HTTYD party, watched 1-2-3 back to back. Damn those are good movies.

What's really good are the soundtracks. Crazy good. So I've been listening a bit. I've got the sheet music for this one below.

For those that don't know, Jonsi (who does this song, along with Powell I guess) is Sigur Ros (of Vanilla Sky soundtrack fame).

Gotta dust this one off every few weeks because it's good for the soul, especially from the 3:00 mark onward.

This left the researchers to contemplate one possible conclusion: "participation in fringe style cultures may enhance identity development in troubled youth."
