I'll check these. My favorite 2024 was Ugly's EP Twice Around the Sun.

I have been listening to some 2024 stuff recently, some albums and some songs, trying to make a playlist of the songs I liked at least. I'm not dying to listen to the hip new music, but I enjoy newish people doing things I like, and finding out about people who have been doing things for a while continuing to do cool things.

In addition to MJ Lenderman and Vampire Weekend above, some less obvious "discoveries" I have liked:

Mk.gee - Eric Clapton is praising him and he's very acclaimed as a unique "new" guitar guy, I generally enjoyed his album and the song I posted above. I respect individuals playing guitar music and trying to innovate in 2024.

Joanna Wang - I knew nothing about her until a few days ago, very weird and unique but very musical. I think she's the daughter of a Taiwanese music composer or something, so she always has some weird, folky, poppy thing going on. You might enjoy the general musicality of it.



Wild Pink - I have tried to get into this band in the past but never really clicked for me. Their new album though is just so good. Indie rock, "heartland" rock, chill indie fuzz vibes with Tom Petty melodies is what I would call it. This is probably my favorite of all of the new things I've listened to.

One of my work homies recommended Joey Valance, and some of his stuff is okay. But where are the Prince guitar vibes?

Singles soundtrack -- forgot how good the b-sides were, the run from Mudhoney's Overblown to Smashing Pumpkins' Drown, with gems from Westerberg and Screaming Trees and a lil' splash of Hendrix...slice of music heaven.
