I've been listening to this podcast on the Shudder app called Congeria. Does this intro remind you of a band?

Really dig the vintage 60's drum kit.

Been listening to a lot of these guys over the past few days. Northman might even approve of this one

25th Anniversary of The Downward Spiral today. After my kids go to bed tonight I am grabbing a stiff drink and my headphones and getting intimately reacquainted with this album. I was 15 when this came out and thought I had discovered Satan's favorite album. I was a big fan of Pretty Hate Machine but was not prepared for this masterpiece of an album.

And a BONUS full length copy of the Closure documentary from that time. I had to track down that VHS and bought it for $40 at Wax Trax in Denver. Now its free:

    Masterpiece.

I listened to it soooooo much.

The song Heresy was challenging for me. Like you say, I felt like I was betraying my Christian values by enjoying it. And it was on first listen that I was confronted with these choices. Like I had to make a choice about belief. Did it matter what I thought?

Toward the end, after I'd played it so many times and burned through all the catchier tunes, the two songs I liked the most from the album are A Warm Place and Ruiner.

Reminds me of when I was shopping for a sound system. I ended up testing The Downward Spiral when I went to these audiophile type stereo shops--playing songs like Ruiner at very high volume to test accuracy and bass. That song is actually a really good litmus test, you don't get the full primitive impact without that ridiculous low end.

I also played a *lot* of Doom and Doom 2 around this same time. Talk about innocent depravity! I miss it!

Yes as a Catholic that song gave me some pause, but the music is SO good on it I moved on quickly! A Warm Place is a gem on that record.

Loving by Ben Nichols is the most beautiful song I ever heard. The lyrics are glorious and tune amazing. Obviously his voice has that glorious whiskey soaked tone.

It's about the loving case that now seems so long ago, yet it wasn't.

I reckon Abe, MO and d-bake will dig the song and hawg and king will appreciate the meaning more

    It’s not bad.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.
