clearly, it's not the same without her-- but i still liked it quite a bit. . . it feels closer to the classic pixies sound, just stripped down. . . it's not trompe le monde or surfer rosa, but IMO it's a solid addition to their catalogue. . . more pixies stuff to listen to es bueno. . .

They opened with Debaser. Great start tune.

My favorite Doolittle song -by a fathom- is Gouge Away.

I have listened to all of their early albums so much. So much, still. Might as well make a list of personal favorite tracks, ranked.

    River Euphates - Surfer Rosa
    Gouge Away - Doolittle
    The Happening - Bossanova
Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons - Trompe
Distance Equals Rate Times Time - Trompe
Levitate Me - Come on Pilgrim
    Motorway to Roswell - Trompe
    No. 13 Baby - Doolittle
    Vamos - Surfer Rosa
    Hey - Doolittle

Break My Body - Surfer Rosa
    Bone Machine - Surfer Rosa
    Debaser - Doolittle
    Velouria - Bossanova
    Hang Wire - Bossanova
    Tame - Doolittle
    Cecilia Ann - Bossanova
    Alec Eiffel - Trompe
    Rock Music - Bossanova
    Head On - Trompe
    Caribou - Come on Pilgrim

Another Pixies story of sorts. My freshman year at the Academy, we weren't allowed to have music. If you had a CD, it was considered "contraband" and you would get in trouble for possession. This was early in the days of digital music, but what I did was rip the entire Trompe Le Monde disc as wav files and stored the entire 1 GB (a huge amount of data in 1993) on the squadron shared drive. No one really knew what to do with the shared drives, like the network they were new, and WWW wasn't a thing yet. So I figured out how to listen to Pixies without risk of being caught in the act of listening to music. I listened to the disc from start to finish sooooo many times. Somehow, the last two songs (Motorway to Roswell and The Navajo Know) never got old. The rest of the album got old. But those two held up for so long.

Kind of like Three Days and Then She Did on the Jane's album, which was the other album I could fit on the squadron shared drive.
