The 2024 albums I liked the most and will likely continue to listen to in the future:
How can you go wrong with a Manning reference?
...or a backing choir, cello, sitar, piano, and 90s drum beat?

I have been listening to some 2024 stuff recently, some albums and some songs, trying to make a playlist of the songs I liked at least. I'm not dying to listen to the hip new music, but I enjoy newish people doing things I like, and finding out about people who have been doing things for a while continuing to do cool things.
In addition to MJ Lenderman and Vampire Weekend above, some less obvious "discoveries" I have liked:
Mk.gee - Eric Clapton is praising him and he's very acclaimed as a unique "new" guitar guy, I generally enjoyed his album and the song I posted above. I respect individuals playing guitar music and trying to innovate in 2024.
Joanna Wang - I knew nothing about her until a few days ago, very weird and unique but very musical. I think she's the daughter of a Taiwanese music composer or something, so she always has some weird, folky, poppy thing going on. You might enjoy the general musicality of it.
Wild Pink - I have tried to get into this band in the past but never really clicked for me. Their new album though is just so good. Indie rock, "heartland" rock, chill indie fuzz vibes with Tom Petty melodies is what I would call it. This is probably my favorite of all of the new things I've listened to.
My favorite albums of 2024:
Morbid Saint (Official)
Atrophy
DESOLUS
Ribspreader
Hideous Divinity
Moonloop
Firtan
Dekadent (Official)
Farsot
Engulfed
Morta Skuld
Blood Incantation
Fracture
Holycide
Oxygen Destroyer
Wormwitch
Midnight Odyssey
Werewolves
Disbelief
Sovereign
Houwitser
The Usurper
ANCIIENTS
Opeth
Slechtvalk Official
Gonna share some of my other fav songs from 2024 after spending the last couple of weeks listening to some stuff
prince-y 80s guitar vibes:
90s alt brit rock trainspotting vibes:
millennial beastie boys vibes:
trailer park country vibes:
1960s simon and garfunkle sparse folky vibes:
hillbilly living in a cabin bluegrass/folky vibes:
new wave old wave vibes:
One of my work homies recommended Joey Valance, and some of his stuff is okay. But where are the Prince guitar vibes?
- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
Singles soundtrack -- forgot how good the b-sides were, the run from Mudhoney's Overblown to Smashing Pumpkins' Drown, with gems from Westerberg and Screaming Trees and a lil' splash of Hendrix...slice of music heaven.
