I was trying to put together a top 5 Beatles song list but I couldn't do it. Best I got is a top 9.

    Rain
    Strawberry Fields
    Long, Long, Long
    A Day in the Life
    In My Life
    And Your Bird Can Sing
You Never Give Me Your Money
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
    Lovely Rita
    You're a better man than I.
I could limit myself to three favorites on each album starting with Rubber Soul (didn't care too much for stuff before this album). Glad to see In My Life on your list.

That might be the book name - been awhile. But she has a poem about rowing. Darker, but deals with a spiritual process.

This is fun. I haven't heard some of these albums in 20 years. Just listened to Rubber Soul and Revolver again (remastered versions - more on that later). Over the decades I've moved to favoring Lennon.

    Rubber Soul
    Girl
    In My Life
    Norwegian Wood

    Revolver
    She Said She Said
    Tomorrow Never Knows
    Eleanor Rigby
Here, There and Everywhere (because three just isn't enough)

Listening to Sgt Pepper again now. More later.

Just absorbed Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery. Great fun, but my two least favorite of the latter albums.

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
    Day in the Life
    Little Help
For the Benefit of Mr. Kite

    Magical Mystery Tour

    Blue Jay Way
    Strawberry Fields Forever
    Your Mother Should Know
edges out I am the Walrus

The White Album is an amazing piece. I'm taking great liberties since it's a double album. Their best individual works - together.

    While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    Blackbird
    Helter Skelter
    Savoy Truffle
    Happiness is a Warm Gun
    Cry Baby Cry
    Rocky Raccoon

Comment 1: this is about as close to a psyche fingerprint as I've seen
Comment 2: The first six (excluding Here, There, and Everywhere) are crazy intense songs. I can't put my finger on it, but they are very immediate. With Girl, it's in the pre-chorus build "When you say she's looking good..." and those damned breaths. Then the instrumental Russian polka outro thing. With In My Life, well, you either get it or you don't, and if you do, it grabs and holds. Norwegian Wood--man, they crushed the engineering on this one. The mics are so perfect. This is why Rubber Soul is so epic. No one was doing this. The bass is so overpowering, but there's plenty of room for the remaining sonic palette. The texture of each thing, whether sitar, left acoustic guitar, right acoustic guitar, tambo, or voice...it's so tasty. Yeah and the song is near perfect. She Said, She Said is maybe the best Beatles punk song (see also, Rain--it's a comment on high tempo rhythm section played super tight with particularly terrific drums). Damn I love it. Tomorrow Never Knows is def in my top 20 overall, almost made my top 5 that ended up being top 9. Was it in my top 9? E-Rig is just poetry.

Comment 1 was much more concise.

Nice man. Thanks for indulging me. Those are some killer picks. I want to do the same exercise. I'd also like to hear what MO and Abe would pick.

I know Abe would want to include the early works, but it's almost a different band.

My top 5 Beatles song list would change everyday.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

My top 3 from Rubber Soul:

    In My Life
    If I Needed Someone
    You Won't See Me

While winnowing the top 3 runner-ups (I'm Looking Through You, Michelle, etc.) it occurs to me how strong this album is from song to song--on the Richter scale, it's one of those earthquakes that could have sent CA into the ocean.
