I have a few reviews that i have done in the last few years that i will post in here. Feel free to read and comment to your hearts content.
First up are what i call "Quick lick Reviews". These are ones that i find to be average to poor and dont spend a whole lot of time with. You'll see these on occasion. Any other review you see will be longer and are generally albums i like a lot or just decided to write a lengthy review for. Anyhow here are some quick licks.
Warrell Dane- Praises to the War Machine (2008)
First up is Warrel Dane's solo effort "Praises to the War Machine". First let me say this album can be enjoyable but...... there is nothing new brought to the table here. In fact, its just a watered down version of Nevermore. Its supposed to be a progressive album according to Dane. But Nevermore's work takes more risks and has far more progressive elements. Dane has been quoted as saying he wanted to take a more thrashy/songwriting direction on this project but what it features is a lot of what Nevermore does only better. In my opinion there was no need for this to be a solo effort. Warrel Dane should just take the guys in Nevermore and redo this album under the same moniker with the better talent available to him. Again, i can listen to this album without any problems as i enjoy Dane's vocals and it can be enjoyable but only a person who does not know who Dane is or his history will understand where this album is going. At the end of the day Nevermore is far better with a better quality product.

Judas Priest- Nostradamus (2008)
Ugh, why? So yea, ive listened to the new album by Priest and expected much more and instead got much less. The good news is this is Priest and Nostradamus incorporates all the styles that Priest have covered and used throughout their career. The bad news is overall its extremely weak. In fact, they could have cut this album down to about 11 songs and it would of been a huge improvement. Instead, we are subjected to 9 interludes out of 23 tracks. And out of the remaining 12 tracks we have maybe 4 songs worthy enough to stand on their own including the preview track "Nostradamus". The rest of the songs are watered down uninspired slow and methodical songs that really have no direction.
They dont know if they want to write a ballad or a complex piece of material. I understand what Priest were trying to accomplish with this record but there just isnt enough substance to carry it. The best tracks on this record are "Prophecy", "Visions", "Nostradamus", and "Future of Mankind". Other than that its all pretty average material from a group that has done much better. If there is one thing that is remotely accurate with Nostradamus, it is that he predicted this band is at the end of their run. Time to retire boys.
