Martz? The Bears? I now suspect not. A lot of these things are the right personalities arriving at the right time. Dan Reeves was (very nearly) a top notch Coach, but at one point thought Tommy Maddox was an upgrade over Elway - and in truth he never could get the best out of Elway in their last few years together
My thoughts exactly. But of course you do a better job at relaying them...

I feel sorry for jay. By the time he gets some protection the defense will be in wheel chairs. And they are not going to have the draft picks to ddo the overhaul they need and with llovie there.

I feel sorry for jay. But then he is laughing a. The way to the bank.

You're right. No Marshall Faulk, no Torry Holt, No Isaac Bruce, No Orlando Pace(at least when he was good).

I don't think he hired Martz because he was his friend. Jeremy Bates was the first choice, http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nf...ory?id=4801088 and he refused even an interview. There were others also who were considered before Martz. It appears that Martz was one of the few left. And before he was hired, he met with Cutler.

Atwater to the rescue! He is a Cutlover.

Get over it dude. Cutler is a douche, and IMO strikingly similar to Jeff George. Body and skill set are fantastic, brain is damaged goods.

    Favre has terrible mechanics.

    Phillip Rivers has terrible mechanics.

When Cutler was successful he had terrible mechanics.

    Mechanics are overrated.

Cutler's attitude and maturity are the things that are really killing him.

Tebow will end up winning more games in the NFL than Cutler.

    And, he'll throw less picks.

But during that process, everyone knew... even the other coaches that MIGHT interview, that Martz was already the favorite candidate because of the relationship between Smith and Martz.

It was as if Lovie was keeping Martz on the side so that he went through the motions of interviewing the others. All through the process of the search, all that was talked about was how Lovie was likely to hire Martz.

So not only was it not a shocker that Lovie hired Martz, it was the expected hire from the beginning.

GEM is right about one thing, Atwater. The OP did not add any "hate" to his
post. He only reproduced a news commentary. I've done that with items I
    even disagreed with, so . . .

Exactly. It seems the sole difference between a great QB and a bust can
simply be what exists between the ears . . .

. . . and this could be a case in point. I don't know how successful Tebow
will or will not be at this point, but if he exceeds Cutler's success, it will not
be because of superior physical talent - Cutler still has it on Tebow there. It
will be because Tebow has it all together upstairs . . .

Ummm, he was a Pro Bowler under Shanahan.

My opinion only - If Jeremy Bates would have accepted the interview, he would have been the one hired, based on his working relationship with Cutler, when they were both with the Broncos.

Cutler played well enough at times that some people obviously felt he should go
to the Pro Bowl . . . although a host of other people felt it should have been
    Rivers.

But there is no denying Cutler did much better under Shanny . . .

That's why I believe the Pro Bowl should be voted on at the end of the season!!

IMO there's NO WAY he would have that designation had the vote taken place at the end of the year.
