    John Wick has both!

And this is a truly objective fact and not up for discussion.

HEY LOOK! A SCORSESE MOVIE! GO ON... GIT!

You piece of shit gas lighter! lol

Will have to listen to that podcast. I think a big reason I haven't seen many movies (like John Wick) lately is that TV has become THE Medium for long form storytelling and its not even close. Also, whereas movies used to be the communal event that we all could talk about, that has shifted to select big TV/Streaming shows and sports it feels like.

Of all things, I think SNL covered this phenomenon in this skit about a pop culture quiz show. I literally knew like 2 Oscar nominee movies when I used to be all over that stuff:

I watched The Gentlemen last night. 8/10

Great, Guy Ritchie movie in the Guy Ritchie tradition. Vulgar language, violence, complicated plot with a complicated scheme and fun actors playing fun characters with witty English dialogue.

Mathew McConaughey, Colin Ferrell, Hugh Grant.

I don't know how I've missed it, but I blame Covid.

I like that movie. I want to see his new one with Jason Statham. I think it's a spy thing. The first trailer I saw for it I thought it was maybe a spinoff for his character from the movie Spy. It isnt that obviously, but that would be a good movie idea.

    The Mario Bros. Movie: 8/10

Saw it with my family and we all loved it! Perfect pace, charming as hell, and filled with cool little references and details. I LOVED the callback in their commercial to the 80’s Mario TV show rap. The animation and design was great, too. The plot is exactly what the trailer shows (basically a Mario game) but it leads to fun set pieces.

My favorite parts were the beginning in Brooklyn, Mario learning his powers and training, and the Mario Kart race. Special shout out to the Luma star creature in the lava cage and his longing for death!

Lots of critics seem to be lukewarm to it, but the crowd I was with loved it. The critics seem to cite a “simple story” like everything has to have Oscar hopes lol

Sometimes I just want to see Italians do shrooms and get super powers as they fight lizards, ok?!

Couldn’t find mushroom people to voice mushrooms? Lol

The other big complaint I heard is Chris Pratt’s voice for Mario which turned out fine. They address it early on with a great “Italian stereotypes” joke.
