The Town 9/10
Just as good if not better the second time around. A very good heist movie that feels a lot like Heat to me, which is a good thing BTW. A classic that I think will stand the test of time.
Ben Afleck is like a boxer. He came out strong in the first round, got the shit beat out of him in the middle rounds, but has come out swinging and landing in the late rounds.
Let's Rid3!!!!
Highlander 8/10
Great movie.
Drive 7.9/10
FINALLY got around to watching this thanks to Netflix. Good acting and cinematography, and the story was ok. Just felt the ending was missing something. Pretty good overall, but the way people were hyping it up I thought it would be better.
Dredd 3D - 8.2/10 Violent good old fashion R-Rated movie that seems like a cross between Robocop and Die Hard. In a post nuclear war wasteland, Megacity (where the last several hundred million people in America live in a walled off city that stretches from Boston to DC) is under the influence of a drug that slows the brains perception of time to 1% it's normal rate. Judge Dredd and a new rookie female cop are called to investigate a homicide at a mega block called Peach Tree. This 200 story building is under the control of one gang, and after the judges capture a vital informant the gang locks down the entire building and turns the citizens against them by placing a bounty on their heads.
This leads to a series of intensely violent and well scripted battles between the two trapped judges as they work their way to the top floor. The best scenes involve those under the influence of the slow motion drug as blasts ripple their flesh and muscles and bones are ripped apart by bullets. It sounds like a gimmick, but this effect combined with the 3d is outstanding. Lena Hedley plays MaMa (from 300 and the Sara Connor Chronicles) and does a great job as the head of the gang, and Karl Urban is very good as Dredd.
Forget the awful 1995 version. If you are looking for a great hard R rated spectacle then look no further than Dredd.
The Cabin In The Woods 8.9/10
fantastic take on the horror genre with a wood, teens and monsters!
Joss Whedon really is a a master at humour action and horror combined!
Re-watched an old favorite of mine last night:
Amores Perros -- 9/10 at least. What a great movie. It slows down a little in the middle, but the end wraps it up great.
Plus, it has this song in it, which will be stuck in your head for days afterward :
Tomorrow, When the War Began 8/10
Australian flick about a group of teenagers who go on a weeklong hiking trip, and they are out of communication range and when they come back to civilization Australia has been invaded (implied its the Japanese).
