Mandy- 7/10
I was so super excited to see this because i love the previous film (Beyond the Black Rainbow) by director Panos Cosmatos however despite the great visuals and soundtrack the acting was not very convincing and lackluster for me. Even the execution of what i thought might be more risk taking with the violence seemed to underwhelm me. While Cage has a great resume of some very good movies lets face it, he did the "crazy" thing a long time ago in films like Wild at Heart and Face Off. It just seems that Cage is trying to go to the well one too many times here. Dont get me wrong, the movie is still strong enough for a once viewing because as i said the visual effects and soundtrack creates some really great atmosphere but the story isnt really original and fails to capture much excitement beyond that. The character Jeremiah portrayed by Linus Roache is probably the most interesting of the bunch but ultimately cant save the film anymore and rarely do really get a glimpse into his world throughout the film.
The plot of Mandy is about Red Miller (Cage) who is a logger who lives with his artist girlfriend Mandy in their cabin in the deep woods. Both are free spirits of sorts who one night have an encounter with intruders who attempt to abduct Mandy because Jeremiah, a self proclaimed prophet of sorts wants to add her to his cult like group. When things dont go well and ends tragically for Miller he then begins on his quest to track down Jeremiah and his cult and exact revenge. Mandy is certainly worth a viewing but i felt like Cosmatos took more chances with Beyond the Black Rainbow and unfortunately Mandy fell short overall for me.
I turned off my Broncos stream after the 1st quarter and decided to watch In Bruges for the first time.
It was a good decision. An enjoyable movie. Will make for some good rewatching around Christmastime.
I saw the scariest movie of the year today.
Its called the 2018 Denver Broncos- 1/10
Yeah, that existential meandering coupled with moments of evisceration was just too much. I'd be ok with it if it had some direction, but it was like one of those splatter paintings with all the wrong colors, not even sure the artist knew where the canvas was.
BTW, I'm watching The Endless on Netflix now. Kinda interesting.

It switches back and forth from really funny to really serious throughout the whole thing.
I've had it PVR'd for 2 years and finally decided to watch it.
Glad I did.
