I didn't notice it during the movie, but it was really clear when mentioned.

    Pretty cool.

They are starting to have nice callbacks to the earlier stuff in the films. Justice League had both the '89 Batman theme and the original Superman theme at key points in the movie.

    Signs

8/10 Sone serious plot drift. Could have edited tighter. BJ during the pizza parlor scene spiced things up.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi 7.5-8/10

Saw this movie twice already (once with my older friends and once with my son) and the movie hit me in different ways each time. The first time was jarring. So much happened that I didn't expect that it almost overshadowed the really good parts of the film. The second time helped things settle a lot and seeing my son enjoy the film for what it is made me realize that what you expect a movie to be and what it is are two different things. In short, the movie improved to me on a second viewing but it still has issues and it never quite lives up to the film's best moments.

For everyone that bitched about The Force Awakens being too similar to A New Hope, I have good news for you about The Last Jedi! It is quite unlike anything fans of the series have come to expect and that is both it's blessing and it's curse. This film all but takes the idea of the previous movies and subverts it in such a way that is both refreshing and infuriating depending on how much you revere the original trilogy. This is a movie about learning from mistakes, the folly of hubris, and how sometimes our heroes and legends should be removed from their pedestals so that others can grow without their shadows looming. If anyone wants to nerd out and discuss further, we will be giving Buff a brain aneurysm in the Star Wars Thread. For now, here are my overall thoughts:

    The Good
    • This movie is not a retread. It does mirror elements of the other films but it pushes old ideas into new realms. This could be a bad thing depending on your level of fandom.
    • The Last Jedi features some of the most beautiful cinematography of the entire saga. Every frame could be a painting.
    • The new planets, ships, and overall design is very original and refreshing. No more desert planets!
    • The main storyline with Luke, Rey, and Kylo is space opera at it's best.
    • The opening and ending scenes are some of my favorite action set pieces and feature gorgeous shots

    The Bad

    • There are three concurrent story arcs happening during the film and only 2 of them seem to be of any consequence
    • The 3rd story involved a casino planet that adds nothing to the main arc and just comes off as preachy
    • There are characters built up in the last movie that are not explored and merely wasted once again here
    • "Carrie Poppins" scene involving Princess Leia. Absolutely took me out of the movie.
    • There are some serious pacing issues in the middle of the film and it almost comes to a halt at certain points. This makes the movie feel overly long and could use some addition by subtraction.

This movie will confuse audiences not familiar with the main saga, divide the fanbase, and now the last movie is as wide open as what Episode VII could have been making it almost seem like a reset to the entire Star Wars Universe.

I hated this movie. I loved this movie.

It is as simple as that.

If there is one person who I trust to rate the 'The Last Jedi' is our friend, Shake. I can already see I'll probably be lost. I'm sure there will be another Star Wars movie.

I can’t wait to get Blade Runner on Blu-ray. That movie will be a go to rainy day flick for years to come for me.

its a 3 hour snuff film where Mickey mouse rapes and murders Luke Skywalker and 40 years of storytelling. Apparently all the diversity and women don't make up for the abysmal storyline, ludicrous humour and bad acting. who would of thought?

    The Last Jedi 6/10

So much potential wasted and way too long. They could have cut the entire Las Vegas stuff out and made the movie better. Frozen Leia was stupid. Really dumb. To top it all off, the best part of the movie was just a trick. They also seem hellbent on killing what us older guys that grew up loving the original trilogy loved about it

It is funny people are all over the board on this movie but the criticisms are pretty much the same. I really wish they would have done without the Casino planet story, added NOTHING to the proceedings except some preachy B.S.
