Most Stephen King inspired movies feel like they're missing something to me. They make better stories than they do movies, if that makes sense.
The Shining is one of my all time favorite books. I've read the unabridged version twice. I'm afraid to read it again because I don't want my memory of it tainted by my own age and experience. I will just let it occupy that special place in my mind as the book that I most loved during my teen years.
Let's Rid3!!!!
The ones with a foot in reality are always the best films of his:
- The Shawshank Redemption
- The Green Mile
- Stand by Me
- Misery
My personal favorite King film is the hugely underrated The Mist. Not only is the movie a good representation of the book, but they had a new ending that was BETTER than the book and even King admitted to it. Really messed up final scene. I also have a soft spot for his meteor vs farmer segment in Creepshow.
Misery was excellent. A bit slow in parts, but Bates and Caan were terrific in it.
The Dark Half is another one of my favorites.
