Ridley Scott makes amazingly beautiful movies to look at.
Yeah, I could have spent a lot more time in that movie just watching them wander around that giant, oddly quiet forest. Like I said there were some issues with it, but no more than the other movies that make up my head canon for Alien films.

    I'd rate them like this:

    1A Aliens
    1B Alien
    2 Prometheus
    3 Covenant

In my head 3 was Ripleys fever dream, and Resurrection and the Alien vs Predator series were just big-budget fan-films.

    Apocolypse Now

8/10 Brando mailed it in and was still awesome. I felt bad for Larry Fishbourne. Not because he died in the movie, but because his daughter went into porn.

I always loved the dark gritty feel of 3...and something about British actors makes most movies better.
The directors cut of it is really solid and the effects are great for it's time.
My list is similar to yours:

    1) Aliens
    2) Alien
    3) Alien 3
    4) Prometheus
    5) Covenant

We'll just pretend that Resurrection never happened...;-)

A solid addition to the Alien mythos. This movie picks up 10 years after Prometheus and moves us that much closer to the original Alien film. The third act felt a little rushed, but I liked the continuation of the story. This movie continues with the themes of creator and creation, as well those of morality with the god vs servant evolution.

Whereas Prometheus felt more like a straight sic-fi movie with some horror aspects, this is a straight-up Science Fiction Horror movie. Seeing the genesis of the Xenomorph was very cool, and I am looking forward to seeing where the next movie goes. The "twist" at the end is obvious, but still really fun with a nasty sense of dread that hangs in the air as the credits roll.
    i loved it.

Wow. I was blown away by this film. Last night, I finished watching the series of “13 Reasons Why" on Netflix. Wow. Just wow. I’ve learned a lot from it. In episode 13, I couldn’t watch a few scenes and I decided to skip 2 scenes. Then, I finished the final episode. Unfortunately, I’m scarred about this heartbreaking story. Personally, this film left me speechless.

It is about a teenager explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. She recorded her tale on her 13 cassette tapes before she did it. It is all about bullying and sexual assault. The drama is sensitive, surprising, consistently engaging, and, most important, unblinking. Moreover, It is a heartbreaking mystery. This could be Netflix's best creation yet.

PS: It is not recommended for highly sensitive people and younger audiences.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 8/10

This movie is getting blasted by critics right now (currently at 30% on Rotten Tomatoes) which surprised me, but either way take this review with a grain of salt. My son loves these movies ever since he saw The Curse of the Black Pearl so this was a no-brainer matinee, and that may be the key to enjoying this movie. I don't want to use the cliche "turn off your brain and enjoy" advice with this film because I felt pretty engaged and entertained the entire time. Personally of the five Pirates movies, I only really loved the first one and thought the 3 sequels were mixed bags at best. They kind of got up their own ass for 2 and 3 especially and I honestly thought they were boring. The last film before this was much leaner and shares a pace similar to this latest entry which may be a big reason I like it.

I'm not going to go into the plot, just rest assured it involves yet another curse and some visually stunning bad guys this time led by the ever charismatic Javier Bardem. The effects on him and the crew are at at once gross and hauntingly beautiful. The movie is broken up into about 4 really great set pieces and everything has a sense of fun about it. I particularly liked the Guillotine scene which made great use of comedic drama during an escape attempt. Ghost ships, curses, sword fights, and the coolest looking zombie sharks ever made for an enjoyable day at the movies for me and my kid. The finale was really well done with some of the coolest effects of the entire series as a backdrop. If you just let this movie be what it is, I think you will enjoy it if you have liked other movies in the series. I would say it is closest in spirit to the Curse of the Black Pearl and On Stranger Tides for whatever that's worth.

Batman vs. Superman was actually really good - the only main issue I had was with Lex Luthor. The interpretation was fine, but his reasoning for doing the things he did was rushed, poorly explained, and those issues bled into other parts of the movie a little bit. That being said, it was much better than a lot of the reviews indicated, IMO.

Did you watch the extended cut? They handled Lex's story much better in that one.

I did not, unfortunately. There were a lot of scenes they could have cut out and made room for better explanation of the trick he played and his reasoning for doing so. The obvious parts are editing down the dream sequences, and the start/end of the movie. But, movies don't exist in vacuums, especially these ones - he will be better explained in future movies, and everyone knows that he's the 'bad guy'. I don't mean to excuse some things that at least appear to be mistakes so much as I do mean to try to contextualize them.

Overall I'd give it an eight out of ten for the 'contextualized viewing' and a 7 out of 10 otherwise.

    Deadmen Tell No Tales.

    6/10.

Wasn't anywhere near as good as the other movies in the franchise, felt rushed to close up some lose ends, Johnny Depp was not as good.

wasn't bad, will eventually buy it, worth a watch, was a step down from the others.

The Ultimate Edition was actually the version Snyder had finalized but the studio made him cut it down last minute to cram more showings into a day. If you ever get a chance check it out, it explains things so much better and many critics that didn't like the theatrical cut actually found the extended cut to be much better. Plus it has more Clark Kent stuff which makes it feel like less of a Batman only movie.

    Also this makes me laugh:

Ha! You had the almost the exact opposite response as me. I thought 2-3 were the worst of the five films so far. I think people are just drawn to different things in these movies. Either way I hope this is the last one, it has kind of run it's course.
