Movies RARELY meet up to any book that is read. They can't, normally, meet the expectations of the imagination. So just watching this movie, I enjoyed it. The barrel down the river scene was pretty lame, but it didn't take away from the movie for me.

I give it an 8, easily. Fun movie.

Ahh... never knew his name and didn't really catch anything about the need to fly over misty mountains. I mean, his boss is some big bad wizard...figured it couldn't be that hard to get them there.

I was confused as to how Gandulf is older in this movie than he was in the LoR when this book was written first.

Well, see, I wasn't going to say anything, but the northern orcs in the Hobbit movies, including those that will descend on the Battle of Five Armies in the final movie, and seen in Moria in the LOTR movies aren't supposed to have any connection to Sauron. But OH NO, we couldn't possibly explain that little detail in the over 21 hours of movie we've filmed. I guess it's too complicated to explain that the enemy of my enemy isn't always my friend...

I'm not sure I follow you here...did they say somewhere he was older?

It would be lost on most people. Most people would not either notice the issue, or just think "I bet they just fight everything anyway," and be done with it.

I couldn't even make it through the first Hobbit movie. Too many dancing singing dwarves and little dudes named frodo, bilbo, hobo, and dildo. Bleh, dreck complete fantasy dreck.

Mods, can we get a hobbit containment thread? Maybe even its own forum?

Honestly to me, I think that if you didn't read the books a LOT of things are very very confusing. The names, alone, are hard to keep up with. Location names, are the worst. The LoR movies were HORRIBLE for me to try and keep up with as far as knowing what was a location name and what was the name of someone they were talking about. Sooo much information trying to be explained to someone that is ignorant on the books....especially since I'm probably more a visual learner than an auditory one.

It seems they are doing their best to make the movies easy to understand, keep up with, as well as have an entertaining story/plot.

But I absolutely see where you and King are coming from. The first "hunger games" movie was TERRIBLE because of the lack of depth they portrayed the concept of the games themselves. It was horrendously done and have refused to see the second one because of it. Once you read a book and understand sooooo much of the backstories and reasons behind EVERY move, decision, and history of characters its hard to over look what you know. Especially when they add/delete things that SEEM to be huge to the story........that is, unless you didn't know they existed to begin with.
