I realize that I'm in the minority about the Joker, and my dislike for it is bordering on irrational -- but the scene where he's dancing to Gary Glitter Rock and Roll pt. 2 (The Hey Song) seemed like the most oddly out of place song I can remember in a movie in years. Couldn't they have found virtually any other song there? Especially for a movie with an original score and jillion $$ budget.

Yeah I am not going to fault Bong for winning it, but I think Tarantino is only doing a few more films than calling it quits. I would be hard pressed even as a fan of his to find a better movie he's made that Once Upon a Time since Pulp Fiction (which was another snub). If he retires with just a screenplay wins it will be a shame. I think Bong will be a force to be reckoned with in the film world for years and probably is just beginning.

You’re not alone. Great acting performance. Weird movie.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Oddly enough as much as I liked that movie I agree with you on the song choice. The soundtrack and score was filled with other musical cues they could've used there and kind of took me out of an otherwise iconic scene.

2011 is a great example of the Oscar's being a complete shitshow. Just look at the list of best picture nominees and the winner

    BEST PICTURE
    WINNER
    THE KING'S SPEECH
Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Gareth Unwin, Producers
    NOMINEES
    BLACK SWAN
Mike Medavoy, Brian Oliver and Scott Franklin, Producers
    THE FIGHTER
David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Mark Wahlberg, Producers
    INCEPTION
Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan, Producers
    THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
Gary Gilbert, Jeffrey Levy-Hinte and Celine Rattray, Producers
    127 HOURS
Christian Colson, Danny Boyle and John Smithson, Producers
    THE SOCIAL NETWORK
    The Social Network
    TOY STORY 3
    Darla K. Anderson, Producer
    TRUE GRIT
Scott Rudin, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, Producers
    WINTER'S BONE
Anne Rosellini and Alix Madigan-Yorkin, Producers

Seriously, every movie nominated with the exception of The Kids Are Alright (which I did not see) is a better movie than the Kings Speech.

That was actually a great year for movies, look at that list. But FFS the Kings Speech over those others?

I thought it was well acted, but I didn't like the movie. I doubt I will ever watch it again.

Rarely do I agree with the "academy" with their voting, and am more closely aligned to the Vudu community ratings and box office results, but I thought Kings Speech was very good and other than maybe The Fighter, I would probably give it to Kings Speech.

He already has been a critically acclaimed director and a force to be reckoned with for years! Tarantino will get a Best Picture/Best Director before it’s all said and done. Might be for a lesser movie though.

And that is what I mean by "Make-up Awards". The Departed was a great movie, but it seemed like it was an "I'm sorry we ignored your other films" from the Academy when Scorsese got best director for that film. Just weird how it works.

    The Irishman - 8/10
    Really solid flick.
Not hard to tell it's a Scorcesi movie.
I found it dragged in a couple of parts but overall it was a fun ride with a great bunch of actors.

I'm more likely to watch inception again, and have, but I thought Kings speech was a better movie in a pure sense.

Yeah, I thought Kings Speech was a worthy winner in 2011. There are plenty of other examples of what Chazoe was talking about, just not this one IMO
