Bobby lost his battle with brain cancer.
This is a rough one. Murcer played for the Yankees from 1965-1974 and 1979-1983. He played with the Cubs and Giants from 75-79 and was a 5-time all star. He has been a Yankees announcer since retiring during the 1983 season.
When Murcer entered the majors, he was supposed to replace Mantle (no, no one could live up to those expectations). When he retired, it was to make way for the new phenom, Don Mattingly. He delivered the eulogy at Thurman Munson's funeral.
I loved watching him play and he was a pleasure to listen to as an announcer.
His cancer was in remission (diagnosed with cancer on Christmas Eve 2006). He had recovered to the point that he was able to announce a few games this season.
R.I.P. to one of the game's good guys.
My prayers are with his wife, Kay, and the rest of his family.
