Default NBA in OKC: What Will They Name the Team?

Almost put this in the old thread, but decided we should start fresh.

Here, the leading talk is about the following choices, but the team owner's have been silent.

    1. Barons
    2. Thunder
    3. Outlaws
    4. Marshalls

Yesterday, there was a crazy rumor that it would be the Oklahoma City Thundercats. Ugh, that would be embarrassing, being named after a mid-eighties cartoon about super-hero cats.

Of course, all the Sonics fans have their favorite demeaning names. My favorite from Seattle is the Okie Dokies.

Anybody have any good ones? I'll try not to get too defensive and take any anti-Oklahoma jabs in good humor.

    The Braves

    LOL...sorry...offensive post, my bad...forget I said that...

OK...seriously...will they be the Oklahoma _____________ or the Oklahoma City _________?

I think they should be the Oklahoma Outlaws. Wow, that's way too cheesy.

    Um...wow, Oklahoma SuperSonics.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

They have said that the name will include Oklahoma City, not just Oklahoma. The City really pushed for that assurance when we were voting on paying for the Ford Center renovations and practice facility.

With Sonic Corporation headquarters less than a mile from the Ford Center keeping SuperSonics would make a lot of sense, but they agreed to leave that name behind in case Seattle is able to get a team back there.

Then they could donate $1,000 for every 360 dunk to tornado victims.

Everyone has thought it so i will just go out and say it.

    The Oklahoma city bombers.

Seriously though i like the barons. I think that would be a good name for a bball team. There are lots of teams out there like the hurricanes or thunder or storm or something. NOt to many barons.

    I like Barons.
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

Doug Gottlieb was just on the Sports Animal here.

He got his start on the Sports Animal before going to ESPN, and calls back in all the time.

You have to know a little bit of Oklahoma geography and land-run history to really get this joke, but here's his idea:

"I always thought they should name the team the Oklahoma Storm and call the dancers the Cherokee Strippers."

The Cherokee Strip is the site of one of the larger land-runs held in Oklahoma in 1893, and is an area larger than the states of Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

    the dust bowls. . . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

speaking of which I have never seen so many sonics in my life like one every 15-20 blocks on the main roads..

Sonic would be great and I suspect they would be a great sponsor.. But alas the morons in SEA wanted to keep the name Like another NBA teams would ever go back there..
