Does anybody have any recommendations for a listener of De La Soul and Digable Planets...something similar to the early 90's hip hop with some quirky lyrics that aren't filled with a bunch of profanity... and throw in some cool jazzy beats.

Just for some different flavor try some Massive Attack, Herbaliser, Tricky and DJ Shadow. British Trip hop/Hip hop/Alternative Indy rap. With some heavy basslines and badass beats.

    Massive attack- mezzanine

    DJ Shadow- endtroducing
    The Herbaliser- blow your headphones
    Tricky- Maxinquaye

Perfect remedy: Gang Starr. Best album is probably 1992's Daily Operation.

A few years back, they made a song called Check The Technique. It samples California Soul by Marlena Shaw (on the current Dockers commercial) and is one of the the best hip hop songs ever made.

Ahh, if you are going to go that route, I recommend the following:

Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow - Product Placement
Cut Chemist - The Litmus Test
    Quantic - Mishaps Happening
    RJD2 - Dead Ringer

And more hip-hop for the jazz inclined

    Aceyalone
    Blackalicious
