I swear, I'm the only fan of Metallica past The Black Album who's not afraid to admit to it.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

A lot of people are like that. There are people out there that don't like the "Pre Black Album" sounds that Metallica had, but like the more grown up, less hardcore sound. Personally, one of my favorite Metallica songs is "The House That Jack Built" on the Load album...

What would be BADASS on the new CD is if they did a solid 7-10 minute instrumental like they used to on Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All.

High five...i've never really understood the whole selling out thing...it's still good music, just not the kind that the true Metallica fans wanted I suppose.

I might check this out though...unless it's anything like that "thing" that they last made...

I'd admit it if I liked it. I enjoyed a few songs from the Black album, but never can make it through the whole CD without skipping songs. I didn't care for Load, Reload, or St. Anger. I can listen to Kill 'Em All, Ride, MOP or Justice without skipping a song. I love all those albums in their entirety.

I won't say they sold out, they just changed. I hated the Bob Seger cover they played on the radio ad nauseum, mainly because I can't stand Bob Seger.(I might catch hell for that) I liked Whiskey in the Jar although I prefer Thin Lizzy's version better.

People will always debate whether or not they sold out. Although i cant stand anything past the Black album i respect their decision to go more mainstream and rock oriented. My only problem with that is they kept the Metallica moniker. If they had just changed the name i would have never thought twice about their move musically in another direction as it would have shown they could do it without throwing the Metallica name on it. But they knew they could capitalize on the Metallica name for profit (initially). But then of course when their album sales started to fall they blamed Napster which was totally bogus. Not too mention totally hypocritical on their part considering they made their name by tape trading/sharing in the early 80's. I did happen to see them live in 2000 for the Sanitarium tour and thankfully they played a lot of older material as it was my first show of theirs. But ive given up hope that they will ever be able to recapture the sound and ferocity of the earlier releases.

Instead of "Metallica" they could have changed their name to "Craplica" or "Hetfieldforgothowtosinglica"......

I definitely think Hetfield needs to get back to heave binge drinking again. Remember what happened to Aerosmith when they quit doing drugs? Songs like "Crying" and "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" started coming out.

That sounds so much like "Metallica" it's not even funny.

I saw them at Southpark Meadows outside of Austin Texas. I think it was '94. There was a guy in the crowd with a sign that said "McTallica. Over a billion sold!"
