    Yep, oddly enough it had nothing to do with its size, etc. A bill was passed and signed by then President Clinton to give official Great Lake status to Champlain so they could compete for federal research grants, etc. The move was reversed shortly thereafter because of pressure from the states that have REAL great lakes.
