Default I need some good computer help...

Ok, I am thinking of opening up another location. But I will need some good computers. You guys seem to know the whats the best. Let me tell you what i am need/ looking for...

First- If i do open up a new place, money will be a little tight for a while. So i wont be able to really fork out the cash and get some nice eqpt. However, my needs for the computers are pretty basic..

Needs:-- I need the computers to be able to have up to 7 different screens at once, each screen containing various information pertinent to daily use. Also the computers need to be fast enough to still be able to search internet/ other things while the 7 other screens are open. Also even though there is a server ( which i suppose i will need another one of those.) each computer needs to be able to store/read records of about 11 mill files and maybe 50 mil sub files- unless i network all this with the old server. If thats the case just about 1 million files need to be readily accessible on the computer.

lastly, we have one of those hacker protector things, but all the computers will be online pretty much 24/7 and could be more suseptable to virus, trojan back door horses, etc. As we do have valuable info that cant get out.

so computer that can handle many screens up at once, be able to store a lot of info, fast enough to pull up info with screens up, and somewhat hacker proof.....

Any ideas- would be awesome. i am even thinking of computers that might be as cheap as 400-500 bucks as long as they can do that. I dont know...also looking at flat panel screens...

Thanks much. Oh- and the 400-500 isnt a max, or a min- jsut trying to give an idea as how basic the comp needs to be....We dont need to worry about graphics, gaming or any other stuff.....I already have good computers for that...
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

Well, im currently in computer school working on getting my certifications for microsoft. And although it has just started i do have some ideas for you.

If i were you i would get computers with Vista Business on them. They work well as a workgroup and with a Domain. Now, that particular system will not have a lot of entertainment features but from what im reading you are looking for a more business oriented system. This may not be totally what your looking for but here is a brief synopsis on it so read it at your leisure.

    Thanks boss..

I just dont think i will have the time to build them. And honestly I dont trust myself to get them all put together correctly. If it was for my own personal use then ok, but i cant afford a problem to go wrong at work.

Oh, and i would mention trying to get your computers from Tiger Direct. I recently got mine from there for under $700. But mine was built more for gaming so yours could be a lot cheaper.

For what it's worth, Mr.B has been in computers since 1995. His advice is always to go to Dell, because you can buy computers anywhere, but Dell has the best warranties and customer service.

Not in my experience but customer service can certainly differ from place to place.

dell has TERRIBLE customer service in my experience.

building yourself is alwasy cheapest, and you get what you want. i just went maingear, which are really expensive...

in my experience, gateway is a good way to go (with what i've dealt with, i'd go gateway before dell...)

if you want a custom machine cheap, tiger direct is cheap (you get what you pay for imo)

    Nice thanks man.

What brands though would you suggest. I know the business vista is pc, but if for some reason that doesnt work out or not cost effective or something..

would i be better to look at a mac- That was what i was initially eyeing. But the xbox thread has made me since question that. I just want speed, safe from hackers/viruses and enough oomph to have many things running at same time...

I never knew this before but from what is being explained to me in my classes Mac is mainly eye candy and not a reliable source for business machines. Personally, ive never had a Mac but evidently it has a lot of limitations. But to its credit, it was also the source of why Microsoft went to Vista to give it the same kind of appeal as Mac but still have a stronghold in the business enviroment.

I've heard that before, but Mr.B only buys and/or recommends Dells.

Cosigned. Except get them with no OS, and install Ubuntu(you'll save a lot of money), especially if you'll be running them 24/7 and you don't plan to game on them.

I need some good computer help...
UR, please elaborate. Does this mean you don't want MY kind of help?

I already tried helping you once and you didn't believe me (squirrels).
My advice fell upon deaf ears.

Hopefully, the advice you get here will not entail 5# of peanuts or vaseline. Beware of advice.
