How can Led Zeppelin not have three of the Top 25? They were the original heavy metal...imho...
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I have to admit, my metal band Top 10 would be kind of shallow (read: mainstream)...not sure I could come up with 25...

I have no doubt that they helped influence Heavy Metal but they are a classic rock band. Hard rock at the very most. As for "the" band to start heavy metal it would have been Black Sabbath. But anyway, feel free to post your top 25 even if you feel Zeppelin somehow belongs in the discussion. Im curious as what you would have up there.

You'll probably laugh at my entries, but here goes...

    1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
    2. Metallica - Master of Puppets
    3. Metallica - The Black Album
    4. Soundgarden - Down on the Upside (Probably not metal in your book, but most of it I thought was pretty heavy)
    5. Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Oz
    6. Judas Priest - British Steel
    7. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
    8. AC/DC - Highway to Hell
    9. Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction
    10. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

Probably some that many would consider more Hard Rock than Heavy Metal...

    Well put together list Anubis.

There are only two bands I can think of I don't see on there, that I would put up there.

Cradle Of Filth - Either "Bitter Suites To Succubi", "Midian", or "Dark Faery Tales in Phallustein"

the other band would be Acid Bath. Either one of their albums, truly genre changing stuff.

Nah, its cool. If i were to do a more rock oriented list there would be a couple from your list that would make mine. I would have to really sit down and figure out which ones would make my top 25 but these are some of my favorites.

    Led Zeppelin- Physical Graffiti
    Soundgarden- Superunknown
    Soundgarden- Badmotorfinger
    Pearl Jam- Ten
    Beck- Mellow Gold
    Rush- Moving Pictures
    Van Halen- 1984
    Ratt- Out of the Cellar
    Def Leppard- Pyromania
Ozzy Osbourne- No Rest for the Wicked (more metal than rock but works well here)
    Guns-n-Roses- Appetite for Destruction
    Dave Matthew's Band- Crash
    Dokken- Tooth and Nail
    Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream
    Nirvana- Nevermind

Yeah, I could do Top 10 lists all day...I'm a little like Jack Black's character in Hi Fidelity...

Yea, honestly ive heard of Acid Bath but never really heard their music. Im assuming their grindcore? Not really my realm if they are. As for COF, if i had to add one of their's to my list it would have been "Cruelty and the Beast" for me. But those are some solid albums you listed.
