    Default Walter Football Mock

Even though this mock is horribly written, strangely, I can really see this happening.

Surprise... again! Hear that noise coming from Denver? That's the sound of more Broncos fans jumping off the Rocky Mountains. The typing coming from my computer, meanwhile, is that of a "Millen" draft grade being awarded to Josh McDaniels (by the way, I'll have Live 2010 NFL Draft Grades posted a couple of minutes after every pick during the 2010 NFL Draft.)

I mocked Pouncey here last week, but changed this pick to Rolando McClain. Well, forgive me for flip-flopping, but the more I thought about it, the more convinced I was that this pick won't be McClain. McDaniels really gushed about McClain and Dez Bryant during his pre-draft press conference a few days ago. Knowing McDaniels' personality, he won't be taking them.

Every year, there's at least one shocker pick in the upper half of the first round. Last April, it was Darrius Heyward at No. 7 and Larry English to the Chargers at No. 16. In 2008, no one expected the Patriots to pick Jerod Mayo at the 10 spot. The year before that, Miami shocked the NFL Draft community by selecting Ted Ginn over Brady Quinn.

I really think this could happen. McDaniels is one to think outside the box. Remember, he selected a blocking tight end in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He also dealt a first-round pick for a nickel corner. The center position is Denver's biggest need; the team currently doesn't have any NFL-caliber centers on the roster. If McDaniels can reach for a blocking tight end and a nickel corner, he can certainly reach for a center - positional value be damned.

    Other 2010 NFL Draft Possibilities:

    1. Rolando McClain, ILB - Fills a need at inside linebacker next to D.J. Williams. Casual fans love Rolando McClain, but he's not particularly strong in coverage and would only be a two-down player in most defenses, including Denver's. Still, McDaniels is pretty crazy and could be open to taking a two-down player at No. 11.

    2. Dez Bryant, WR - As I Tweeted (follow @walterfootball) on Wednesday afternoon, "I don't see Josh McDaniels drafting another diva WR. If he didn't like Marshall's attitude, why would he want Dez Bryant?" It wouldn't make any sense, but McDaniels has done crazier things on Draft Day.

Pick change; previously Rolando McClain, ILB

Walter's has a real negative hard on for Denver. But i could see us taking Pouncy only we would be trading down to get him.

Per an Adam Schefter tweet, Denver is looking to do just that.

Draft picks 10-12 could see tradesEmail Print Comments 6Share3 retweet 22By Adam Schefter

An offseason filled with trades could continue straight into Thursday night's NFL draft, and picks 10 through 12 might be where the action will happen.

A cluster of teams -- No. 10 Jacksonville, No. 11 Denver and No. 12 Miami -- is interested in moving back in the draft, according to multiple league sources.

Meanwhile, another cluster of teams -- No. 18 Pittsburgh, No. 23 Green Bay and No. 24 Philadelphia -- is interested in moving up in the draft.

Teams will be cautious about trading into Jacksonville's spot at No. 10 because the team that picks might have to negotiate off the complex deal that San Francisco and Michael Crabtree struck last season.

Crabtree, who fell to No. 10 in the 2009 draft and held out through training camp and the opening weeks of the season, signed a contract paying him more than the picks taken ahead of him, setting a tricky precedent for teams at that slot this year.

Denver's spot at No. 11, one spot ahead of Miami, could have more appeal because the Crabtree contract would not be looming over it.

Adam Schefter is an ESPN NFL Insider.

I can see us trading up to get him. The 43 and 45 would equal the 17th pick, which is right in front of Pittsburgh.

It would be nice if Pittsburgh found a trade partner and used R'berger and their 18th pick to move up to take a QB. If you dont move up to 17 or 18, its quite possible that SF would take Iupati and Pittsburgh would take Pouncey.

Walter does not include any trades in his mock which make it terribly unrealistic. There are always trades and if we select Pouncey we will trade down. Its frustrating how he thinks our organization can be so stupid. 11 is a coveted spot. Its not top 10 and there is top 10 talent available that teams dont have to pay through the nose to draft. A trade is likely. I hate it how he compares us to the Faiders last year taking Heyward-Bey 20 picks early. Its stupid how stupid he thinks our organization is.
