    Default grilling

just got a chimney starter and i have been having trouble with it.

i have tried a few things, different amounts of paper, cooking oil on the paper, different types of charcoal.... the bottom layer lights fine, but they just don't seem to light the coals above them, and i never get the roaring hot chimney effect taht i've seen other people get. i let it sit for a while and when i dump the coals, the bottom layer is all ash, the middle is ok, and the top isn't even lit.

    any ideas?

Is this just an old fashioned charcoal grill?

    yeah.

i got it to work better by putting the chimney starter up on top of the grilling surface, rather than in the bottom of the grill. it's a little windy out and i think the extra airflow helped it out, and i actually got some flames shooting out the top.

Buy one of these: You stack your charcoals around it and plug it in. Gets the coals started, when they are glowing you just pull the thing out and you're set.

    They work GREAT!!!!!
