I've always thought the way players "walk around" or step over another players line on the green is really stupid. Do they not realize other players walk around the green all day setting up their own putt?

It’s so there are no fresh spike marks in your line. Before the rule revamp two years ago it was illegal to fix spike marks. The practice is now somewhat outdated but it’s out of courtesy so they don’t have to fix another spike mark after already potentially fixing spike marks in your line 30 seconds earlier.
