    Default Sean Witherspoon

What do we all think about drafting Sean Witherspoon to play ILB? I know the value isn't at #11, but a trade back or dealing Marshall for a later first rounder would put us in his "value" range. I've always liked this kid. Good athelete and a tremendous leader. I never mentioned him cuz, again, his value is late 1st. 393 tackles in the past 3 years and 12.5 sacks. Very productive and although he was an OLB in college, I think he can play inside in a 3-4.

If we did trade BM for a late first, he and Jared Odrick would be the guys I'd covet the most.

    no thanks

    spikes >>> spoon

at least as a 3-4 ILB-- and he should be available later than weatherspoon, who i'm thinking could very possibly go to atlanta or philly. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

spoon is a much better LB than spikes, faster, more athletic, more upside, better intangibles...but would he be better inside???there is question marks there...i belive so...but its just my opinion....i would take him if we could get back to around 15......i have bene on his bandwagon for a few weeks now.....11 isnt great value for him though.....

im starting to wonder though...haggan at ILB???, reid coming off injury???? moss camp fodder..outside of ayers and dumervil are OLB ranks could be kinda thin...haggan wasnt very good there, and ILb is his natural position....could be that derrick morgan, brandon graham are legit options for us now at 11.....maybin went at 9 last year......

If we get a late 1st in a deal for Marshall, we better be serious about Golden tate.

we have had interest in him according to dream...

Witherspoon can play all 4 LB positions with us and they are really valuing his leadership. I wouldnt be to surprised to see his name at 11.

Why is everyone so high on golden tate...I admit I have only seen about 4 plays of his. Not minutes but 4 snaps. While looking good, i dont know, for a 1st- he makes me nervous. WHy do you like him so much. Obviously out of the 4 snaps I have not seen what you have..
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

    off-topic, but i'll answer this. . . i freakin' love that kid. . .

he's just a tremendous competitor-- straight gamer all the way. . . i can't remember the last time i saw a college receiver who attacks the ball in the air so aggressively. . . doesn't matter if he's bracketed in coverage or going across the middle, he has that mentality that any ball in the air is his and his alone. . . he tracks it well over his shoulder and makes great adjustments to the ball in flight, high points it and goes after it. . . he's fast and tough for his size, uses his frame well to shield the ball and will outmuscle defenders for it in a crowd. . . he has incredibly strong hands to snatch the ball out of the air. . . has exceptional concentration and good body control, drags his feet like a pro, and runs well in the open field. . .

he's not one of the physical freak type guys and he doesn't have desean jackson sprinter's speed, but dude is a hell of a football player. . . good route runner, hard worker, and he makes big plays in the clutch. . . he's my favorite receiver in the draft-- his desire and aggressive mentality remind me a lot of the way rod smith played the game. . . love to have him in orange and blue if brandon gets moved. . .

Spoon may have more upside, speed, and athletic ability, but no LB in this draft has more intangibles than Spikes.

A lot of that sounds like it could be written about Fitz in AZ. Sounds like a great pickup. I really like the it's my ball attitude

Hard for me to say one way or the other between Spoon and Spikes. They both have strengths that would benefit the team.

also, i don't know that there's a 'backer in this draft who stacks and sheds at the point of attack any better than spikes. . . he plays physical, he plays violent, and he has plus size for anchoring in those A gaps. . . i don't think he has the smarts and savvy mcclain does, but he brings plenty of intensity and attitude as a striker in the middle of the defense. . .

In my opinion, Weatherspoon is the top overall linebacker in this draft. He's a beast.

I agree. and for the people who are saying he can't play ILB in the 3-4 because of his size that bull **** he is the same size as Patrick Willis who might be the best ILB in the NFL. Pat Willis is 6'1 240 and he plays in the 3-4 and he has been just fine in the NFL and Sean Weatherspoon is 6'1 239 which is only one pound lighter so that really isnt going to matter all that much.

Witherspoon is a stud all the way.

But hes too light for 3-4 linebacker.

McD is going DECIDEDLY bigger across the front seven.

My thoughts at 11 are Denver is hoping Morgan is there first, then Graham.

Haggan is going to be fine inside. Big player at 6'3" 270.

All the big boys up front are going to make a big difference for us in the run game.

Morgan is the same size as Haggan, and had the best short area speed of the OLB prospects. He was at 1.63 in the 10. Graham came in at 1.65.
    IN PATON I TRUST.
