Steelers | Fan accuses cook of spitting in burger
    Fri, 28 Mar 2008 11:36:32 -0700

The Associated Press reports a fast-food cook and Seattle Seahawks fan has been accused of spitting in a hamburger that was ordered by a man wearing Pittsburgh Steelers gear. Kittitas County sheriff's deputies are saying the 37-year-old customer was with his daughters at an eatery and traded remarks with a cook about Super Bowl XL. The customer reportedly opened his food container and said there was spit on the burger. The man demanded a refund and called the fast-food restaurant's district manager, who told deputies a 24-year-old might be responsible. Deputies went to the employees house and smelled marijuana. The man was released after being booked for investigation of fourth-degree assault and possession of marijuana.

ESPN's John Clayton reports the NFL has come up with an interesting way to stop team tampering before the start of free agency in 2009. The league is considering letting teams have a window of time before free agency to discuss contracts and set the market. Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay, co-chairman of the league's competition committee, calls the proposed negotiating window a "dead period.'' In many ways, it's an active period. In late February, all teams will be able to talk to the agents of upcoming free agents. There will be no contact with players during that one-week period, but what this would do is allow teams to understand what a particular player's market value would be. This proposal won't be voted on in next week's owners meeting, but it could be decided in the spring meeting. Under current rules, teams technically can't talk to the agents of players until the start of free agency, but deals are usually cut in the days ahead of free agency. This proposal could give teams a better chance of keeping their own players. Not a bad idea.

ESPN's John Clayton reports the next move is for the Tennessee Titans to see how much they really want to move CB Pacman Jones. The Cowboys reportedly have offered a player and a seventh-round draft pick, and it would appear that they are the only team willing to take a chance on acquiring Jones while he is on suspension. With the Patriots, Lions and others not being as active as the Cowboys, the Titans can accept the terms or hope other teams jump into the action.

The interesting part of the Cowboys position is that they are willing to make a firm offer instead of a conditional one. Once the player -- whoever he is -- is traded, there is no way the deal would be voided if Pacman remain suspended. Under those conditions, the Titans might be willing to move quickly.

ESPN's John Clayton reports there was a small push by coaches to have "force outs" added to the instant replay officiating. The competition committee came up with a better idea -- eliminating the force out. The force out is when a defender pushes a receiver out of bounds before he sets his feet legally for a catch. Looking back at the 2007 season, the committee found there were only 15 such plays in 2007. If the rule passes next week, the only time a force out would be called is if a defender holds or carries the receiver out of bounds.

ESPN's John Clayton reports one rules change proposal could clean up some of the decision-making involving face-mask penalties. The competition committee is proposing the elimination of the 5-yard face-mask penalty, which is considered grabbing the face mask. If the plan works, officials would have only one call -- a 15-yard penalty.

ESPN's John Clayton reports the NFL is trying to add a third category to the coin toss. Winners of coin tosses can elect to kickoff or receive the football. Under a new proposal, the league would like to give the team captain the option of deferring the decision and letting the other team decide.

ESPN's John Clayton reports Denver Broncos HC Mike Shanahan tried to drive opposing kickers crazy last season by waiting until the last second and calling a timeout as the ball was being snapped for a field-goal attempt. At the time, most teams thought the league would change the rule for 2008. As it turns out, the league won't change anything. The competition committee believes this is a coaching idea that could simply run its course.

If you put "ESPN's John Clayton reports" in front of something, does that make it credible?

Just copying the entire article for people to read. You as the reader make a decision if it has any credibility. I personally could give two ****s if you find it credible or not.

Considering he's a Hall of Fame writer, yeah, it does.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.
