Default Looks like Pickett will be tagged also

The Packers are joining in on the defensive tackle franchise tag party.

In one of the first mild surprises of the offseason,Green Bay is expected to retain Ryan Pickett by using the franchise tag, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

Pickett and the Packers have been discussing a long-term deal, but the team will use the tag if they can't consummate the extension by Thursday.

The move isn't really a huge surprise. With no salary cap implications, it's almost crazy not to use the tag to retain the rights to a quality starter.

Defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Aubrayo Franklin have already been tagged, while Casey Hampton is expected to later in the week. We wonder if the agents for Franklin, Hampton, and Pickett will wait for Wilfork to set the market at the position.

bob marley coulda told them fools not to wait in vain. . .

i don't know just what franklin is thought of around the league, but no way a guy hampton's age is going to match what wilfork will get when he does hit the market, and i doubt pickett can either. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Neither Franklin or Hampton have the value that Wilfork does. Both of them being tagged shows how high GM's value good 3-4 NT's though. Dan Williams stock is rising before he even takes his first test at the combine.
