    Whats your take on him?
Never lived up to his hype and definitely isnt designed for the 3-4. I think if a 4-3 team offered a 3rd for him, they could get him.

Ah, I'm sure it just coincidence...
It's actually interesting. the league is a becoming a pass first league. So we can look at this two ways. is the league becoming pass first because DT's like Pickett, Franklin, Hampton, Wilfork, etc are such a hazard to opposing run offenses? Possibly. But when these guys are only playing 50% of the downs in a game because the NFL is so pass oriented, how much of a difference do they really make?

    you have to wonder.

I think thats why they have become so valuable. The DTs that can handle the space alone, by themselves, clogging holes allows the DE's and LBs to go after the QB. So they are an economy of manpower, in a sense.

Yeah, I guess it comes down to each person/teams interpretation. Because if the DE's and LB's are teeing off...then it's obviously a passing down and more likely that these block-eating NT's aren't on the field at the time...or they've slid over to the DE spot. (Pickett, Ratliff) Who knows. The final 4 this year featured 3 teams that dont even use the 3-4.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached agreement on a three-year contract with nose tackle Casey Hampton and placed their franchise tag on kicker Jeff Reed.

Casey Hampton has played in at least 13 games each season since 2005, anchoring a Steelers defensive line that has been one of the best at stopping the run.

A league source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Hampton's contract is worth $21 million, including $11 million in guaranteed money.

The Steelers were facing a decision on whether to place their franchise tag on Hampton, with the hope of eventually reaching an agreement with him, or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Hampton, a nine-year veteran, had 43 tackles and 2½ sacks last season for the Steelers.

With Hampton's contract accounted for, the Steelers instead used the franchise tag on Reed, the team announced.

good lord, i know he's a big dude anyway, but look at the head on that guy! makes barry bonds look like a pinhead. . . maybe there's something to all those rumors about the stealers being on HGH. . . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
