Default Bradford will NOT work out at combine

Bradford won't work out in Indy
Posted by Mike Florio on February 18, 2010 8:49 AM ET
Quarterback Sam Bradford, a Heisman winner who ranked higher than first overall pick Matt Stafford on some draft boards a year ago, hopes to make the climb again despite a bad shoulder.

But scouts won't get a chance to eyeball Bradford's progress next week in Indianapolis where they will convene for the annual Underwear Olympics.

Former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah reports that agents Tom Condon and Ben Dogra of CAA have informed all 32 teams by e-mail that Bradford won't work out for scouts until March 25. On that day, Bradford will conduct his own Pro Day session, 16 days after the official Oklahoma version of the Underwear Olympics.

The e-mail reportedly came with a letter from Dr. James Andrews, who explained that Bradford is ahead of schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery, that the distance on Bradford's throws has been increasing, and that Bradford is on schedule for the March 25 workout.

Bradford nevertheless will be in Indy for medical exams, interviews, and Wonderlic testing.

Dr. Andrews' explanation is curious to say the least, given that Bradford himself told Dan Patrick two weeks ago that Bradford's had recently thrown 30 balls 50 yards.

Even if Bradford were 100 percent (and it sounds like he might be close to it), it's unlikely that he would have thrown any footballs at the Underwear Olympics. Few top-tier quarterbacks ever choose to throw there, preferring instead to show what they can do in familiar territory, with college teammates running the routes and catching the passes.

This year, neither of the top two quarterbacks will be doing anything at Indy other than talking, submitting to poking and prodding, and scribbling dots with a No. 2 pencil onto the answer page of a 50-question exam. Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen is recovering from toe surgery and won't work out.

It opens the door for Colt McCoy of Texas, who has said he'll try to throw. If he has a strong workout (like Pat White a year ago) McCoy could push himself into the top ten, especially since five of the top nine teams (Rams, Redskins, Browns, Seahawks, and Bills) need a long-term answer at the position.

Well, hes gonna have to have the Pro Day of his life now.
I was always weary of him, obviously because of the throwing shoulder, but not going to the Pro Day really leaves me with the impression he as something to hide. Leinart/Young didnt go, but i think teams are on to these guys now. If your a Qb and your not at the combine, then you got something to hide.
16 days later hes gonna throw in a completely controlled situation that will only play to his strengths and i am sure will attempt to mask his weaknesses.
Very interested to see him throw now.

Good he may just slide to us. I hope he does so bad. That would be so sick. Shoulders, I dont want to say are relatively easy to fix. But are relatively easy to fix, right. I mean, you go in clean it up, possibly have to go back if there is lots of scar tissue they missed... I dont know much about it, but thats what i have heard.

I have a torn rotater in my right shoulder, but I dont have the money to get it fixed.
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

If Bradford was to slide and still on the board when Denver picks...I think they will take him. Too much upside if his shoulder is ok.
    Thanks Shake!

yep, fine with me if he slides to us. . . i'll happily take that risk. . . .

i just can't see orton as any type of long term solution, and the sooner we bring in a legit option, the sooner we can start to develop for the future. . . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I'd be shocked but thrilled if he makes it by Shanny at 4. We'd probably still have to trade up in front of Buffalo and Seattle to get him though. It would be well worth it.

Hopefully Ben McDaniels is one hell of a QB coach.

I don't care if he has a horrible pro day, he'd still be a great pick at 10/11.

    DUCK! Those pesky black helicopters.....

Did you not read the part about the Doc saying 3/25 was the target date?

Sam's said all along that he wanted to try to be ready for the combine, but everybody knows it's not what it's cracked up to be anymore. Especially when their pro days have almost as many scouts show up.

And last I heard, they're saying his shoulder should be even STRONGER than before. He IS, afterall, going to be there for medical exams, right???

Realistic people would prolly realize that since he hasn't played, really, since the beginning of the season, and had surgery in the last few months, that he'll need any/all extra time to get back into the groove.

Not much sense in throwing balls around if he's going to be sucking hind teet from being out of shape.

You wouldn't happen to be an OU hater, would you? Just a question.

You clearly have not spent much time here if you think i am a OU hater.
As ive stated above, i am the 1st on this board to predict Bradford would be a bronco.
But he does have alot of questions to answer with his shoulder. I dont care what his doc or some clown "analyst" thinks.

Wishful thinking, Bradford won't make it past Shanahan unless he's dumb enough to take Clausen over Bradford! Just say no to Clausen, I'd rather take Bryant before him and I'm against taking a WO as a first!!

If Shanahan drafts a QB before he gets some help at the tackle spot...he's crazy. I see the Skins drafting Okung.

The shoulder worries me about as much as Brees shoulder worried Saints brass.
