Thread: Make your case for a player!

This sounds like a thread about what player you like, but it is a little different.

I want you to imagine you are in the "War Room" in Dove Valley, and you are making your case for a specific player. You can imagine it is any round, any player, at any position. Just be sure to explain how that player would be able to help the team.

I will choose an easy one (fill free to add or rectify any of my comments)

With the 12th pick in the first round I believe we should select... Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon.

Heading into the draft I see many needs. I would rank the needs in this order: DT, OT, WR, FB, K, RB, S

Problem with DT is that Ellis and Dorsey should be gone at 12 and after that there is a huge drop off in talent.

Problem with OT isn't really a drop off in talent, but there isn't a "stud" lineman in the first round. I feel that the 2nd round labled prospects are just as good as the 1st round prospects and I can afford to wait to the 2nd round or even 3rd or 4th rounds. Plus Denver has high interest in Harris, Kuper, and Pears.

I only see two widereceivers worthy of the 12th overall pick. Limas Sweed and Malcom Kelly. Denver's history with wide receivers really scares me and just the over all bust rate of 1st round wideouts scare me even more.

FB and K would be a huge reach in the 1st round... I don't think I have to go into detail here.

RB- Stewart can do it all. I know we have Henry, Hall, and Young, but Henry's age, character, and injury history really worry me. I think it is time to think ahead as well as get a guy who has value. The 12th overall pick will cost us some green stuff. If I'm going to pay a player good money, he better hold a lot of value as well as be a marketable guy for the team. Usually, QB's, WR's, and RB's are the most marketable players. I like the chances of Stewart to do well in Denver. I think he will help us in short yardage situations, red zone percentage, and draw attention from other talents such as Marshall, Scheffler, and Cutler, something we currently lack with on demensional runner like Selvin Young.

Seems like you keep making up your mind... first I read a lot of post about Mendenhall then McFadden... who is your #12 pick and why?

I talk about McFadden because the possibility, however unlikely, has been brought up of him falling to 12. More realistically, Mendenhall is someone who will be available to us. And youve already seen several of my thoughts on why I like him.

Devin thomas- big surprise there.

Ok, we are a running team and we need guys who can block. Marsall can block, and we know that grahm and scheff can block. Just imagine if we could have another wr out there who can own his man. The running ame would be crazy.

We need a solid #2 and this guy is it. He is 6'2 217 almost the exact same size as javon walker. Only he has no injury problems, and he is faster and stronger. This guy can break tackles like brandon, but also has the speed to take it to the house on the long ball or if he gets a seam. Devin also has the ability to be a great return man on punts and kicks. And he could also be very effective on reverses and screens. Remember how effective walker was. He should be better.

Besides that coupled with jay scheff and brandon we will have the youngest most potent offense for the next 5 years minimum. That way all we have to draft and FA is oline and defense. (assuming we get stewart :wink: ).

Underrated, you have a good taste in wideouts....What do you think of Luke Dillon?

I dont know if its accurate or that I agree with your analysis but I like that you said it with chutzpah.

Dont know, let me do some research on him and i will get back to ya... Was he in the combine?? If so i have them recorded, and then i can really take a look at him.... i am at work so it will be a while.

How much easier would our draft have been if James Laurinaitis left? Geez...

no, he didn't go to the combine. He played for Defiance...small school prospect. He had his pro day at Ohio State University's Pro Day this past Friday. Dillon ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and measured in at 6-foot-4 and 233 pounds.

well i am in sales, but i dont make stuff up. Of course i havent seen much play by him so a lot is opinion, but its all based off of facts and things i have seen. I try not to exaggerate things either, so i would say its pretty accurate. I guess we will see soon enough.

Wow! sounds like a winner. yeah i got to check on him! Good find on the small prospects, maybe he lasts til the 4th and we can nab him like we did brandon. I know nothing of him yet so he might not, but nontheless i am excited to check up onhim.

Defiance College WR Luke Dillon worked out at Ohio State University's Pro Day Friday, March 7. Dillon ran the shuttle in 4.16 seconds and performed the three-cone drill in 6.77 seconds. He performed 17 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. His vertical jump was 33 inches and his broad jump was nine feet and six inches. Dillon could be working out again to try and improve on these numbers, according to his agent.
