Rockies' Jon Gray: Continues bullpen sessions in boot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
May 9, 2017 2:19 pmGray (toe) has been throwing bullpen sessions while wearing his walking boot, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Of course, there's only so much one can do while wearing a walking boot, but Gray is doing everything possible to be ready as soon as possible. He'll likely need some rehab starts in order to get completely back to form and currently sits without a firm return date, but it seems like a return to the rotation is on the horizon.
Rockies' Jon Gray: Bone scan comes back clean

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players...66291/jon-grayGray (toe) is feeling no pain in his foot and received good results from Monday's bone scan, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
The Rockies' young ace has been out since mid-April with a stress fracture in his foot, but it seems like he's on the right track to return relatively soon. Gray has been throwing from 90 to 100 feet during the time he's been out, but if his checkup on Thursday goes well, he could ditch his walking boot and progress to running drills in a swimming pool. Unfortunately, no timetable for his return to action exists yet, but things should become clearer following Thursday's appointment.

More impressive? #Rockies' 12-5 road record or 10 wins from rookies Senzatela and Freeland? Young starters, top relievers doing work

#Rockies Holland has not allowed a hit in 12 of 18 appearances. Has opened season w franchise record 17 straight saves @DenverChannel

Why are #Rockies crushing it on road? Relievers own 1.93 ERA w 64 Ks in 60 2/3 innings w 20 walks. Don't talk about it, be about it.

http://www.9news.com/sports/ian-desm...tart/440541924There's no question that through roughly a quarter of the long MLB season, the Rockies look for real.
They own the second best record in the national league, and sit 2.5 games up in first place in the NL West with a 25-15 overall record.
Still, in Coors Field and the surrounding Denver area, there's a sort of hesitant optimism floating in the air. Many fans want to believe that the wins will keep coming, but aren't ready to expect that just yet.
That's especially true when history says fans should be cautious of a Rockies' strong start.
But, Colorado newcomer Ian Desmond is tired of all that talk.
"I keep hearing about the 'it's early' stuff," Desmond said. "These games matter. We're winning games, and I don't think that needs to be discredited."
After yet another Rockies win Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins, the 31-year-old veteran was asked about the team's 12-5 road record, even though "it's early".
"Every win is important," Desmond responded. "I don't care if it's April, May or September. You want to win games, you want to win series and you want to give yourselves a chance to play meaningful games at the end."
While many Rockies teams in years past have had strong starts, only to fade down the stretch, Desmond believes this club is different.
"I'm really confident in what we can do," Desmond said. "We're going to be good, and it's going to be a fun summer."

rest - http://www.denverpost.com/2017/05/18...es-beat-twins/MINNEAPOLIS — On paper, Thursday’s matinee between the Rockies and Minnesota looked like a pitching mismatch.
The Twins sent Ervin Santana to the mound, a savvy veteran who’d been riding an extended hot streak. The Rockies countered with rookie right-hander German Marquez, making just his eighth big-league start.
But Marquez is not your typical rookie and he never got the memo. He outpitched Santana, writing another chapter to the remarkable story of the Rockies’ young pitching this season. Marquez allowed one run on four hits over five innings in Colorado’s 5-1 victory in the first game of a split doubleheader at Target Field.
“The fastball command wasn’t quite there, but I had to make adjustments and continue to battle and give the team a chance to win,” Marquez said.
As for besting Santana, Marquez said: “I have a lot of pride in beating Santana, one of the best pitchers in the game right now. He’s a guy that’s been in the big leagues for 11-plus years now, so there is definitely a lot of pride in beating him.”
