I wish they would have kept Juan, and started him down in the minors. Also, they got rid of their pitching coach - possibly he was the problem. I'm sorry, but I feel the Rockies owe him something more than this. He was pitching great before his terrible accident.

Well, in fairness, he was pretty average before his injury. After returning from injury he basically became one of the worst pitchers in baseball.

I hear where you're coming from, because you hate to see a guy go out like that, but I really don't see how the Rockies had any choice. They gave him opportunity after opportunity and he struggled badly.

Juan was rushed before he was ready, and the broken neck didn't help.

Blessed with a mid-90s fastball, he made his major-league debut May 28, 2011, at age 24, jumping directly from Double-A to the Rockies. But his rookie season ended in terrifying fashion Aug. 5 that year when he was struck in the head by a line drive, fell on the mound and fractured the C-1 vertebrae in his neck.

Default Dodgers acquire right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio from Rockies

Perhaps the Los Angeles Dodgers can harness Juan Nicasio's talent.

The Dodgers acquired the big, hard-throwing right-hander from the Rockies Monday for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Nicasio was designated for assignment by the Rockies last week.

I'll root for him as long as he's not pitching against the Rox. I really wish he would have gone to a team outside our division, but hands are tied when it's a waiver pick-up.

I will continue to root for him, except against the Rockies. What bothers me is that one of the better teams in baseball felt it worthwhile to claim him, while the Rockies felt he would serve no purpose for them. Oh - it MUST be because the Rockies are loaded with great pitchers - silly me.

It was a cost prohibitive thing. The Rockies have some really good pitching coming up through the minors. Nicasio was due to make 2.5 Million this year. With his recent production and lack of a second consistent pitch, he wasn't worth the risk.

Default Ex-Rockies reliever Matt Belisle signs one-year deal with Cardinals

Matt Belisle, a Rockies reliever since 2009, on Tuesday signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to multiple reports.

Belisle agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal with St. Louis. He made $4.25 million with Colorado last season after the Rockies picked up a third-year option in his contract.

Finally the Rockies have done something... And I like it. Rutledge was nothing more than IF depth who spent most of the year in AAA last year. Getting a legit bullpen arm is relatively exciting.

#Angels have acquired IF Josh Rutledge from the Rockies for RHP Jairo Diaz. I guess he competes for 2B job.

In exchange, the Rockies got themselves a really nice reliever. Diaz had a 2.20 ERA and a 48/10 K/BB ratio in 32 2/3 innings in Double-A last season before coming up in September and allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings for the Angels. With his high-90s fastball and slider, he could be a long-term closer for Colorado. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...or-jairo-diaz/

This kills two birds with one stone for me. I'm glad we got a nice prospective bullpen arm and I'm glad Josh is going to a team I like. I think the Angels are my favorite AL team.

I wonder if this says anything about a possible Tulo trade? I always figured if they traded Tulo Josh would be the logiCal next guy in line at SS, but I'm not well versed in the teams minor league prospects. They wouldn't move Nolan to SS would they?

Any potential Tulo trade would come midseason at the earliest. Hearing from Weiss in the Post and listening to Saunders on the radio this week, they decided not to rebuild, so they're going to go with Tulo and Cargo and try to "build" around them. Plus Tulo is owed too much money and is coming off a couple of injuries - so he'd have to come back and restore some of his value before opposing GMs would give us anything approaching decent value for him.

I would never say never on a Nolan move to SS, but at this stage after two gold gloves at 3B, I think it's fair to say he's entrenched there and they'd only move him if they stumbled into some all world third baseman.

If they move Nolan to SS, someone should blow up the front office.

As far as a Tulo trade...good luck. He's almost relegated for an AL team at this point...at least if you are looking to actually have him for close to 162 games. Dude is 30 years old and guaranteed another 118 million dollars...averages less than 120 games a year and just had major hip surgery. That is one extremely expensive and unreliable DH.

You might have a chance unloading CarGo, but his injury history and road splits arent going to get you the return you might hope for.

Default LaTroy Hawkins, Rockies closer, will retire after 2015 season

Rockies veteran closer LaTroy Hawkins announced Friday that the 2015 season will be his last.

Speaking on the MLB Network's "Hot Stove" broadcast, Hawkins said: "Next Sunday, I'll be 42 and 2015 will be my last year playing professional baseball. Hopefully not my last year of professional, but it'll be my last year playing professional baseball."

Hawkins will be entering his 21st season in the majors, and Rockies manager Walt Weiss said that plans, as of now, are to have Hawkins be the Rockies' closer again in 2015.
