Default Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes arrested on Maui for allegedly assaulting wife

Major League Baseball player Jose Reyes, the shortstop for the Colorado Rockies, was arrested on Halloween after allegedly assaulting his wife in their Maui hotel room, sources say.

Reyes and his wife, Katherine, were allegedly arguing in their Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea room that afternoon.

His wife told responding officers that Reyes grabbed her off the bed and shoved her. Sources say she also told police that he grabbed her throat and shoved her into the sliding glass balcony door.

Default Rockies' Nolan Arenado awarded third consecutive National League Gold Glove

After making a catch for the ages on a brisk night in April, many pondered what Nolan Arenado could possibly do for an encore.

The answer arrived Tuesday night when the Rockies' all-star third baseman was awarded his third consecutive National League Rawlings Gold Glove, setting the stage for what could become one of the most decorated defensive careers at third base in baseball history. No other National League third baseman has ever won three Gold Gloves in their first three years.

In 2013, Arenado, at the tender age of 22, became the first NL rookie third baseman to win the award. The only other rookie at the position to win was the Red Sox's Frank Malzone in 1957, he went on to win Gold Gloves in his next two seasons. Arenado was just the 10th rookie to win a Gold Glove at any position.

Default Colorado Rockies' Nolan Arenado wins Wilson Defensive Player of the Year at third base

Baseball glove and sporting goods company Wilson announced on Wednesday that Nolan Arenado has won their Defensive Player of the Year at third base for 2015. The award, given to one player at each position across theleague, crowns the best defenders in Major League Baseball based on sabermetric measures.

This is Arenado's first Defensive Player of the Year award from Wilson; Juan Uribe was the winner at third base in 2014, and the award was given in a different format in 2013.

This year's award also means that Arenado has swept the defensive awards handed out by major organizations and publications; on Tuesday, the Rockies' third baseman won the Rawlings National League Gold Glove Award, and earlier this offseason he also earned the Fielding Bible Award for his stellar defensive work.

The Colorado Rockies confirmed the news on their Twitter account on Wednesday:

Default CarGo, Arenado power way to Silver Sluggers

DENVER -- Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez, who shook off years of frustrating injuries in 2015, earned his second National League Silver Slugger Award and third baseman Nolan Arenado received his first Thursday night.

Gonzalez finished third in the NL in homers with 40 and batted .271, but that's only part of the story. The residual effects of an injury-filled 2014 caused a slow start, but from May 23 to season's end Gonzalez hit .293 with 36 homers and 84 RBIs.

    Complete awards coverage

Arenado swept three major defensive awards -- the Rawlings Gold Glove (for the third time in as many Major League seasons), the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award and The Fielding Bible Award -- but proved this year he was more than just a glove man. Arenado tied the Nationals' Bryce Harper for the NL lead in homers with 42, and led the Majors with 130 RBIs, 89 extra-base hits and 354 total bases. The extra-base hits surpassed the Braves' Chipper Jones (87) for the all-time record for a Major League third baseman.

Default John Axford, Wilin Rosario and Rex Brothers designated in Rockies roster moves

In a surprise set of moves Friday, the Rockies designated for assignment their veteran closer, John Axford, along with longtime catcher Wilin Rosario and left-handed reliever Rex Brothers.

Right-hander Tommy Kahnle also was designated for assignment, as part of an overhaul of Colorado's 40-man roster.

The Rockies used the roster space to add minor-leaguers Trevor Story, a Triple-A shortstop and one of their most promising prospects, outfielder Raimel Tapia and right-handed pitchers Carlos Estevez and Antonio Senzatela.

And, the Rockies signed backup outfielder Brandon Barnes to a one-year contract extension, avoiding arbitration.

The cutting of Axford, Rosario and Brothers came as a surprise. The Rockies will save north of $10 million in projected arbitration raises on those three, perhaps opening the door for an offseason acquisition.

@TroyRenck If# going to crawl out of darkness must view prospects as commodities. DFA Rosario and Brothers? Should have traded both 2 years ago.

@TroyRenck Trades are zero sum game. Can't worry about what giving up. Focus on what getting. # long guilty of overvaluing their young players.

Default Rex Brothers traded by Rockies to Cubs for teen prospect

The Rockies on Wednesday swapped another pitcher, sending reliever Rex Brothers to the Chicago Cubs for 18-year-old left-hander Wander Cabrera, the teams said.

Brothers last week was designated for assignment as the Rockies' purged their roster of four players to make room for younger minor-leaguers.

Cabrera, who signed with the Cubs last year as a 16-year-old out of the Domincan Republic for $250,000, is a big, strong lefty. Already 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, he played his first professional season this year in the Dominican Summer League.

In 14 games, Cabrera started seven games for the DSL Cubs, throwing 42 1/3 innings for a 2.34 ERA.

I love the Rockies, I have watched all or parts of over 100 games the last 4 seasons even though they've been terrible. My son and I love to watch the Rockies together but if they trade Blackmon and Lemahieu but keep that jackass Reyes as their SS I may have to be done with them. What a ******* shitshow.

Don't worry, they signed Jason Motte today.

Default Mark Reynolds headed to Rockies for a first base platoon

NASHVILLE — The Rockies on Thursday set up a likely platoon at first base by agreeing to sign former St. Louis Cardinals veteran Mark Reynolds to a one-year contract, a major-league source said.

Reynolds, 32, will make $2.6 million plus incentives next season, pending a physical. The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The Rockies have not announced the move and wouldn't confirm the deal was done.

Reynolds, a right-handed bat, likely will split time at first base with left-handed hitter Ben Paulsen, 28, who emerged as Colorado's starter at the spot last season after Justin Morneau was injured.
