Artical about it in Denver. With Boras as his agent people started thinking the Rocks would move him with next year his last on a 2 year 23 mil deal.

I would love to see Holliday stay for years, power, qauility fielder, and can be a face of the franchise with Tulo. But the Rockies have been burnt with big contracts and have never really outside of Helton had to keep a start player for long term. I think that the Rockies have a chance of being a solid team still for a few years if they can sort out the pitching in the offseason with the ages of the core guys on the team that we have now. But it comes down to who is the odd man out, Atkins is coming up to his date this year, do you keep him, or Hawpe or Holliday? I would think that Hawpe would be the odd man out eventualy but you never know with the Rockies ownership. Expectations are new from the fans and no one knows how to deal with that, we want a winning team but they are not at the moment and do you get a young arm for Holliday in the coming months? Questions that we will just have to wait and see on.
Thursday and Friday really sucked, blew a chance for at least a split and it is looking like a sweep and then 0-7 heading to LA.
The problem with that idea is that the odds of getting young arms that can be effective in Coors Field are enough of a concern that its not really worth trying to replace Holliday. I know its popular to dump payroll to acquire young arms and such but it doesnt always work out. And Id be wary of trying to be too clever if Im Colorado. Because if it doesnt work out, theyll find themselves trying to replace a big run producing player AND trying to find pitchers.
Unloading payroll for young pitchers is a little more problematic in Colorado in terms of finding guys who can deliver in the altitude. I wouldnt bank on the FO being THAT good.
Humidor has helped keep the field at least a little more level in Colorado. Cook is the prime example of a pitcher that can do great at Coors and luckly Greg Reynolds is a sinker ball pitcher with the same velocity as Cook so I hope Greg is learning alot from Cook and paying attention because I really think he has a solid future in the rotation.
Then you have Francis who is having a hard year so far, but is an above average pitcher, Ubaldo is learning and can only get better with experiance. Can't forget about Hirsh, he pitched three innings in the Springs working his way back.
So that leaves the Rockies with Cook, Francis, Jeminez, Reynolds, with Hirsh, Morales, and a vet most likely next year fighting for the rotation spots. To me that is not that bad. Youngsters just need time to grow.
Never a sure bet either when trading for young arms. The Hamilton/Volquez deals are few and far between. Hope that the Rockies can work something out but Boras will be a thorn in the side.
Hopefully Spilly's hand will be ok, doubt we will see him tomorrow but I just hope that the DL is not in his future.
June will be a big month for this club most likely get a feel for what will happen with the roster after the All-Star break.....

It was discussed all the time in considering where to locate a new franchise. A lot of people had misgivings about putting a team in Denver out of fear or what it would do for stats and such. Ive seen studies before and I think they said that a ball hit 400 ft at Shea would go over 430 ft at altitude. I remember this just like I remember the talk of what they should name the team.
Discussed when considering MLB, but rarely brought up when minor league baseball was played here.
The following link is very interesting history of the Denver Bears, and the following caught my eye:
"In May, in one 19-game stretch, Denver pitchers had a 1.99 ERA and hurled 31 consecutive scoreless innings. Fourteen of those games were at hitter friendly Mile High Stadium."
