I know Mike Chernoff in Cleveland just turned down the padres, but I think that's more timing than anything else. It's hard to hire a GM right after the draft. Approach him in October and Chernoff might jump at a team.
Then it sounds that it would work. Also, from article I posted:

Hire a team president who truly knows baseball. Let the new executive freshly evaluate every inch of the Rockies, from minor-league development to player health practices to the effectiveness of O'Dowd.

Monfort doesn't like to fire anybody.

So hire a real baseball man unafraid to clean up this mess.
Question is - would Monfort be willing to hire a team president, and let him do what he feels needs to be done?

That's what I'm advocating for. They need to fire O'Dowd, hire a baseball man and get out of his way.

Totally agree with everything you said. Problem is, only Monfort can make that happen. Or maybe it is time for MANY to stay away to reduce the 2.5 million tickets sales annually to where Monfort has no choice but to do something. As long as he gets that kind of attendance, the people buying the tickets are silently saying - "winning is not important to us - we will still buy tickets"

    From article

He stared past the beautifully manicured grass of Coors Field, which fills team coffers with revenue from more than 2.5 million ticket sales annually, and searched for answers that won't come easily. After optimistically predicting 90 victories for Colorado in 2014, Monfort is wearing the losses.

Default CO Rockies Owner Responds to GJ Fan's Criticism: "Don't Come!"

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - On the Fourth of July, Michael Ferguson saved up money to take his family of five to Coors Field to watch their favorite team play, but after a 9-0 shut out, his dissatisfaction with the Colorado Rockies was at a high point.

"When they get shut out, it's always frustrating,” said Ferguson. “It seems like the same team year after year.”

So when he left the stadium, he decided to leave a disapproving comment in a feedback form.

“I pretty much just filled out the survey and kinda wrote a little bit about how it's frustrating to spend the money and go see [Rockies] teams that are constantly struggling all the time,” said Ferguson.

Well, you heard it from the owner. Stop going. He needs to sell the team. The Monforts have no business trying to run a professional franchise. Prove it to 'em Colorado residents.

The only way that anything will ever happen is if MANY do stop going. He will either do everything he can to make it a winning organization, or he will sell it. Hit him where it hurts - in ticket sales.

He made some comment about how Rendon clearly deserved the All Star nod based on performance. So I pointed out that Morneau has the same amount of HRs with a better average and more RBIs. He replied that Rendon fields his position better and that the altitude inflation should be factored in.

Morneau had been leading, but Rizzo now has a slight edge over him. Voting stops today at 2:00 MST. On the Rockies' website, real easy to vote for Morneau, as many times as you want.

Default CarGo to shift to right field upon return to Rockies

DENVER -- Rockies star Carlos Gonzalez will move to right field when he returns to the lineup Friday night against the Twins, manager Walt Weiss announced Wednesday.

Gonzalez, who hasn't played in the Majors since June 3 because of a benign tumor in his left index finger that required surgery, played all three outfield positions from when he broke in with the Athletics in 2008-11, then switched to left exclusively in '12. But Weiss believes Gonzalez fits in right on the current roster.

Weiss will juggle All-Star Charlie Blackmon, Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson and Brandon Barnes at the other outfield spots. By putting Gonzalez in right, the Rockies will be more comfortable when they use Dickerson, who has batted .327 in regular time in Gonzalez's absence, but has minimal experience in right (four games last season, with his only start there being his Major League debut). Stubbs (.295 entering Wednesday's finale) also has earned increased opportunity.

Default Rockies owner Dick Monfort reaches out to fan after controversial email

Rockies owner Dick Monfort reached out Wednesday to a frustrated Rockies fan from Grand Junction who was angered by an email response he had received from Monfort.

Monfort sent Mike Ferguson an apology email and also gave Ferguson his direct number so that Ferguson could call the owner. Monfort said he wanted to apologize directly to Ferguson.

According to the Rockies, Ferguson has yet to either return Monfort's email or call him back.

IMO, the only reason Monfort sent an apology email is because Ferguson brought this to the media's attention.

Where did you see that Rizzo won? According to this, they have not posted the winners yet.

Default Donaldson, Morneau complete Derby field

    from article:
The 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby is going to bring Justin Morneau back to his Minnesota roots, and it's going to give the nation a good look at one of baseball's best slugging third basemen.

"I think it's a great story, him going back to Minnesota," Tulowitzki said on the ESPN announcement. "I'm sure the fans will have a lot of fun with it, and so will he."
