Default Todd Helton holding back emotion in final Rockies game at Coors Field

Todd Helton, being Todd Helton, tried to pretend that it was just another game. That was impossible.

Even as he was driving down I-25 from his home in Brighton it hit him.

"We know there's no crying in baseball," he said Wednesday evening before the Rockies hosted the Red Sox. "I shed a tear on the way here, so hopefully that will let me keep my emotions in check."

    That's going to be difficult.

Wow, Peyton Manning really is a big deal in Denver. They're holding a ceremony to honor his college backup who never even played in the NFL!

(Seriously though, I wish I could have made it to Coors tonight. Not many dry eyes in the place I imagine.)

Also, I apologize - I was pretty mad when the Rockies let Andres Galarraga go to the Braves just so they could make room for up-and-comer at 1B. That up-and-comer turned out okay after all.

Peyton replaced Todd when he got injured

    from article:

Todd began the ’94 football campaign as the back-up to Colquitt. Waiting in the wings, however, was stud Peyton Manning. Todd could tell right away that the frosh was the real deal. When Colquitt hurt his knee seven plays into the opener, Fulmer turned to his junior to run the team. A short time later, Todd also suffered a knee injury, which opened the door for Manning.

It's a real shame that a douche bag couldn't at least be classy for a few hours and leave Rockies fans alone here.

Helton's home run in his first at bat was awesome. I'm sad to see him go.

I agree. I can't believe Carol trolled me the entire game.

Ok. This might be Mr. Helton's final at bat. Sox go to bullpen.

There's a blurb in R.A. Dickey's book where after seeing Manning play his first game after Helton's injury, Todd said "ah screw this, it's time to focus on baseball."

I was at the game last night and even Red Sox fans were on their feet cheering for Todd. My son and I had a great time. It'll be a great memory for him.

BTW, who is the douche that wouldn't leave Rockies fans alone.

Kind of hard to see what they did to the field, but it was pretty badass.

Is there something about most of the asses from Boston that they just can't be happy for another team or let them enjoy something without bullshit trolling? Is it just bred in you Bostonians.....maybe that's why Pags is enjoyable, he isn't really from New England.

    Troy Renck ‏@TroyRenck 13m

#Rockies lose 11-0.. Gap between league's best is a canyon...Rockies outscored 26-5 last two gms vs LA, #Red Sox
    ...

On another note, the Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the 2nd time in 19 years. The Rockies have made the playoffs twice in the last 20+ years.

Just an FYI Gem, most people from Boston aren't like that either.

Default Todd Helton battles all the way through his final major-league at-bat

LOS ANGELES — The last goodbye will be the first memory that returns for Matt Belisle. Todd Helton walked into the dugout, up two flights of stairs and down the narrow hallway to the sixth locker on the left in the Rockies' visiting clubhouse.

Helton wasn't sitting down without a last tribute. After the Rockies congratulated Michael Cuddyer on his batting title, Belisle said, "How about one more time for number 17?"

The standing ovation moved Helton, as so many tributes have over the past two weeks. One player yelled for a speech. Helton isn't much of a talker, so he kept his final address to his teammates brief.
